‘For most of my life I carried a huge burden of shame, I thought there was something wrong with me because I couldn’t finish or start a lot of things.
‘I found it very embarrassing. But when I found out there’s a reason and I’m not a bad person, that was really interesting.’
Geena talked about one of her most famous film roles, that of Thelma Dickinson in Thelma & Louise opposite Susan Sarandon in 1991.
The actress praised her co-star Susan, saying, “It had a huge impact on my life. I wanted so badly to be in this movie when I read it.

“Susan Sarandon was my opponent. The first day I met her, I watched her move through the world and say what she thinks – it was such a big moment for me.”
“I learned that my mission in life is to close the gap between when something happens and how I respond authentically.”
Thelma & Louise has since become a groundbreaking feminist film, with Geena saying the film prompted her to play “daring” characters in the future.
She said: ‘When I saw the reaction of women after Thelma and Louise. I thought we weren’t giving women enough opportunities to get out of a movie with a feel inspired by female characters.
“I want to play interesting, daring characters anyway, that’s more fun. There was a huge difference between the sexes in what we showed children. We teach them gender bias.’
