Passenger train collides with lorry in Victoria: Man fights for his life and is airlifted to hospital with emergency services at the scene of the accident
A man fights for his life after an early morning collision between a truck and a train.
Emergency services rushed to South Geelong just after 6.30am after reports that a V/Line bound for Melbourne had collided with a lorry near Barwon Terrace.
“The lorry driver suffered life-threatening injuries and is expected to be airlifted to hospital,” a Victorian Police spokeswoman said.
The driver was unharmed and it is understood that the train was not carrying any passengers at the time.
The collision disrupted morning traffic, with the Barwon Terrace level crossing closed and commuters on either side.
A spokeswoman for the Department of Transport said Geelong Advertiser buses would replace trains between South Geelong and Waurn Ponds stations because of the accident.
The circumstances of the collision are not yet known and police are investigating.
