Gavin Newsom issues strange plea to Joe Biden as he faces furious backlash for wildfire response
Gavin Newsom was criticized after he complained that “misinformation” on social media is harming residents of his state as fires continue to rage.
The California governor spoke about his struggles during a briefing with President Joe Biden during a remote video briefing in the Oval Office.
“I’m asking you, we have to deal with this disinformation, there are hurricane winds of misinformation and disinformation, lies, people who want to divide this country and we’re going to have to deal with that as well,” Newsom said.
Newsom seemed deeply troubled by recent conversations he had with his constituents, which he said were peppered with inappropriate questions.
“It breaks my heart when people suffer and struggle [and] that we also have to deal with those hurricane forces,” he said.
He spoke about stories on social media as if they were a disease that needed to be treated, calling them “very damaging.”
“It infects real people who are out there, people I meet every day,” he said, adding, “It makes you wonder where this stuff comes from.”
But Newsom quickly faced criticism for his focus on disinformation as his state remains on fire.
‘Disgraced Governor Gavin Newsom is more concerned about fighting misinformation than helping Californians’ wrote Representative Wesley Hunt of Texas on X.

US President Joe Biden, along with US Vice President Kamala Harris, will host a video screen briefing with Governor Gavin Newsom, Mayor Karen Bass and FEMA Administrator Deanne Criswell.
‘Disinformation? Part of your state just lost its livelihood, ‘fact checkers’ are not going to solve this problem,” he added.
“Every time I hear a politician say that we need to ‘deal with this misinformation’, I get chills down my spine.” wrote comedian Bridget Phetasy.
‘HOLY SMOKE. Gavin Newsom is now playing the victim, claiming it’s “misinformation” that he failed in the fires. wrote social media user Johnny Maga on X.
“Gavin Newsom should resign,” the Breaking911 account on X said noted.
Other critics of the state’s Democratic leaders also took issue with reports of fire hydrants in affected areas without enough water to fight the fires.
Biden encouraged Newsom and other officials to “speak clearly to the American people.”
“Let them know what we can and cannot do,” he said. “We need to let people know that there will be things that will be available.”
The president blamed climate change for increasingly severe fires in California.
“There is climate change, there is climate change, this is part of it and we have to deal with it,” Biden said.
In a widely circulated viral video, Newsom was chased by a Los Angeles mother who tried to avoid her by pretending to be talking to President Biden before admitting he had no phone signal.

A video of Bass standing silently and ignoring a reporter’s questions about cutting the fire department budget also went viral as people flagged it as evidence of her incompetence.
President-elect Donald Trump repeatedly criticized Newsom for failing to provide the city of Los Angeles with enough water to prevent droughts and fight fires.
“Governor Gavin Newscum needs to immediately go to Northern California and turn on the water pipes and let the water flow to his dry, starving, burning state, instead of letting it flow to the Pacific Ocean,” he said, referring to his favorite country . nickname for the left-wing governor. ‘It has to be done now.’
The former and future president reiterated that Newsom’s water and fire prevention policies in California were responsible for the horrific tragedy.
‘NO MORE APOLOGIES FROM THIS INCOMPETENT GOVERNOR. IT’S ALREADY WAY TOO LATE!’ Trump added.
Biden rebuked Newsom’s critics, saying the governor and mayor were getting a “bad rap” over reports of unavailable water supplies.
“Give me a break. This is understandably all about utilities,” Biden said.
He argued that power outages were the cause of water shortages in fire hydrants and criticized people for not having enough information about the facts on the ground.
“This is complicated stuff and there will be a lot of demagogues trying to take advantage of it,” he said.
