Gavin Newsom makes underhanded dig at Kamala Harris when asked about DNC nominating process

Gavin Newsom appeared to criticize Kamala Harris’ controversial path to the Democratic presidential nomination.

When asked about her choice as nominee, the California governor joked that he was “told” it was “a very inclusive process.”

Last month, Joe Biden made the shocking announcement that he would not seek re-election, later endorsing Harris.

That put her at the top of the list, and her campaign has seen significant fundraising and polling gains over the past month.

However, many critics argue that the Democratic Party’s maneuvers are thwarting the will of the people, as Harris has never won a ballot or a primary.

While Harris’ nomination remains controversial, Governor Newsom appeared to laugh it off during his appearance on Pod Save America, which posted Friday.

When the podcast hosts asked him about “the transition,” Newsom laughed.

“We went through a very open process, a very inclusive process,” he seemed to joke.

“It was bottom-up. I don’t know if you know that. That’s what I was told to say,” he added.

Later in the clip, Newsom laughed that Democrats had held a 30-minute meeting between the time Biden tweeted that he was dropping out of the race and the time he tweeted that he was endorsing Harris.

“It was wonderful,” Newsom said, before striking a different tone.

“It’s amazing how united everyone is,” he said solemnly.

Leading figures within the Democratic Party, such as Nancy Pelosi, claim that the nomination was not rigged in Harris’s favor.

On Friday, the clip of Gavin Newsom, who is believed to have presidential ambitions himself, sparked anger among people on social media.

Journalist Glenn Greenwald uploaded the clip to his X.com account, offering a brutal critique of Newsom’s laughable behavior.

“The Democratic Party is laughing all the time about how anti-democratic, how vote-free and how secret their process was to choose the new Democratic presidential nominee and then impose it on the country,” Greenwald said.

In the comments, many viewers expressed outrage over Newsom’s seemingly carefree attitude toward the nomination process.

“I have no words for how disgusting I find this,” one user wrote.

“This is amazing. They are actually joking,” someone else commented.

“It was surreal to see a candidate accept the nomination without ever having won the primaries,” another noted.

In March, Biden secured the party’s nomination with little competition. After the president’s dismal debate performance in June, many Democrats called for Biden to step aside.

At the time, there was speculation that Newsom could replace Biden on the presidential ticket.

In late November, the California governor raised eyebrows when he debated Ron DeSantis, who was running for the Republican nomination for president.

On July 21, hours after Biden withdrew from the race, Newsom endorsed Harris on X.com.

In his tweet he wrote:

“Tough. Fearless. Persistent. With our democracy at stake and our future at stake, no one is better equipped to prosecute the case against Donald Trump’s dark vision and lead our country in a healthier direction than America’s vice president.”

On Thursday evening, Harris formally accepted the Democratic nomination for president.
