Gavin ‘Capable’ Preston: Sabrine Maghnie could be the key to solving gangster’s murder in Keilor’s Sweet Lulus café – as photos show the other side of feared Melbourne gangster

EXCLUSIVE

The daughter of a gang killer who was best friends with underworld boss Gavin ‘Capable’ Preston could hold clues to his bloody public execution.

Sabrine Maghnie, 23, is the daughter of murdered gangster Nabil ‘Mad Lebo’ Maghnie, who was a trusted ally of Preston before he was shot dead in a hail of bullets in what remains an unsolved murder.

She is also the girlfriend of Jesse Marrogi – the brother of captured killer George Marrogi – who was at war with Preston before he was shot on Saturday.

Sabrine reportedly met with Preston between three and four weeks ago, which is of interest to Homicide Squad detectives tasked with solving the case. The age reported.

Her relationship with Jesse has long raised eyebrows in criminal circles due to her own father’s well-known hatred of George Marrogi when he was alive.

George Marrogi and Nabil Maghnie tried to kill each other before Maghnie was shot dead and Marrogi was jailed for 32 years for murder.

Jesse Marrogi reportedly made Preston so angry that he threatened to not only bash him, but also rape him.

Those who knew the 50-year-old said such talk was more than a threat from the ruthless criminal, who was known to carry out such attacks in prison.

Daily Mail Australia is not suggesting that Sabrine Maghnie had anything to do with Preston’s execution, only that it has been reported that she may have met with her father’s old boyfriend.

The other side of Gavin ‘Capable’ Preston

On Monday, footage obtained by Daily Mail Australia revealed a side of Preston seen only by those close to him.

Preston had spent most of his life behind bars and had only been released in April after serving nearly a full 11-year sentence for shooting two drug dealers, killing one of them.

Gavan Preston was shot dead on Saturday morning while having breakfast at Sweet Lulus cafe in Keilor Village in the city’s northwest.

A 40-second clip shows a hooded man in black sprinting to the cafe’s seating area and shooting in Preston’s direction.

Terrified guests throw themselves to the ground and cover their faces as the notorious criminal sinks into his chair and falls to the floor next to his table.

As the gunman runs away, two women check each other for injuries before grabbing their handbags and fleeing the cafe.

Two men are seen approaching cautiously Preston, who remains motionless next to the table where he was eating breakfast seconds earlier.

Preston was having dinner with Abbas Maghnie Jr, known as AJ, the son of crime figure and Preston associate Nabil Maghnie, who was also shot dead in 2020.

After his release, Preston began posting images of himself on Facebook of his new life on the outside.

Footage showed him cozying up to partner Lauran Howe, before and after her name was written on his forehead.

Others showed him playing pool with a young child and enjoying video games on the couch.

The tender photos seemed a world away from the violence that had marked most of his life.

Although Preston was considered capable of anything, so much so that he recently had the word tattooed on his neck, sources have told Daily Mail Australia that he had a caring nature that was only enjoyed by those he loved.

A former girlfriend of Preston’s recalled a story in which a young Preston threw away his own tickets to see ’90s hard rock band Skid Row after his date was denied access to the venue.

‘He was a gentleman. He could have gone inside, but he stayed with me,” she said.

Preston was killed instantly while chatting with Abbas Junior Maghnie over coffee in a Keilor cafe.

Nabil’s son and Sabrine’s brother remain in hospital after taking one of the ten bullets fired at Preston.

Detectives are investigating Marrogi’s crypt theory

While the motive behind Preston’s murder remains unknown, it is clear that detectives are interested in knowing if he had anything to do with last month’s attempt to steal the body of Meshilin Marrogi, George’s late sister, from the family crypt at Preston General Cemetery.

Meshilin – a beautician – had tragically died from complications related to Covid 19.

Her death had severely affected her imprisoned brother and he was not allowed to attend her funeral.

She had been with Marrogi when he traveled to the Highpoint Shopping Center to see what kind of hoodie he wanted to wear during the murder of Kadir Ors, who was riddled with bullets in an execution-style hit not unlike Preston’s.

While George is currently serving a 32-year prison sentence – all of which he will likely serve behind bars – it is claimed that he still runs his vast criminal organization from the outside.

On Monday, his own mother Madlin Enwiya appeared in the Melbourne Magistrates’ Court on allegations she helped launder money for George.

She appeared in court via a video link from Brows By M – an eyebrow stylist company once operated by Meshilin.

Her appearance coincided with a Herald Sun report suggesting Preston may have been targeted for helping himself to allegedly stolen trucks from a trucking company linked to the Marrogi clan.

But those in the know suggest that if George used even a shred of evidence to convince him that Preston was involved in the attack on his sister’s body, his death certificate would have been signed and sealed.
