Gavin And Stacey’s Ruth Jones is seen WITHOUT a ring on her finger as she’s seen filming with co-star Joanna Page – is this the clue that Nessa won’t get her happy ending with Smithy?

Gavin And Stacey’s Ruth Jones continued filming for the 2024 Christmas special in Barry Island with Joanna Page on Wednesday.

Ruth, 57, who plays the iconic Nessa, has kept fans on the edge of their seats as she was spotted without an engagement ring on her finger.

Fans had to wait five years to find out what Smithy, 46, (James Corden) responded to Nessa after she got down on one knee in the 2019 episode.

But with filming having started earlier this week, fans are still left waiting to see if she finally gets her happy ending with Smithy.

At the climax of the final Christmas episode in 2019, Nessa knelt down to propose to Smithy, but viewers never got to hear his response.

The couple had an on-again, off-again relationship during the series, after several unplanned one-night stands led to their son Neil.

In the series finale, which followed the characters 10 years after the previous episode, it was revealed that they were successfully raising their son together.

And as the family gathered in Barry for the festivities, the episode ended with Nessa getting down on one knee and the episode ended right after she asked, “Marry me?”

Speaking about Nessa’s shock proposal, she told the Mirror in 2019: ‘It’s quite difficult to show her soft side. When I’m down on one knee, it’s obvious what’s going on.

“When I put my hand on my heart and said, like Nessa, ‘I love you. No, I do, I love you with all my heart,’ I really meant it to James.”

Gavin And Stacey star Pam Shipman’s Alison Steadman has admitted she will ‘cry’ when filming finally starts.

The 78-year-old actress, who shared the cast, is emotional that the BBC show is finally coming to an end. She said she feels “privileged” to have been on the programme.

According to The Mirrorshe said: ‘It’s a beautiful series. It’s so nice that it’s popular. I feel very privileged and very lucky to have the opportunity.

‘I have to say this is the only series I’ve ever worked on where we end every character’s last scene with the words, “That’s a wrap for Alison Steaman.”

“Everyone’s bowing their heads and crying like we’re so sad it’s over. It’s such a good experience for everyone.

“I think the magic of the show is that everyone loves each other and the audience enjoys that.”

Nessa’s diverse career includes work as a roadie for a major brand, a producer for the BBC and, more similar to her current role, as a truck driver.

She is said to have ridden for Gladys Knight and the Pips, The Who and the farming company Eddie Stobart Ltd.

James has been busy directing the Christmas episode and has not yet started filming any scenes himself.

Meanwhile, Gavin’s character will return for the special episode.

At the height of the show’s success, James (Smithy) and Mathew (Gavin) were inseparable. They formed a strong friendship during the show and continued to work together afterwards, even presenting The Brits in 2009.

But working as a duo didn’t go as hoped. And after a series of failed projects, James left for America and the duo split amid rumours of a feud.

Following the success of Gavin And Stacey, ‘Gavalar’ and ‘Smithster’ teamed up as comedy partners on projects including the critically panned film Lesbian Vampire Killers.
