Gary Neville has put more pressure on goalkeeper under fire Hugo Lloris after the Tottenham captain made another high-profile mistake.
Leading 2-0 at half-time, Tottenham looked to be back in contention for Champions League places, but a resurgent Manchester City emerged after the break with tails held high to score three quick goals.
The reigning champions won the game 4-2.
Hugo Lloris made another high-profile mistake to allow Riyad Mahrez to give Manchester City the lead
Julian Alvarez had halved the deficit before Erling Haaland ended his mini-drought with a heading effort to level the teams.
In yet another installment of a thrilling game between the two clubs, Ivan Perisic hit the post at one end with an open goal as Tottenham squandered a chance to retake the lead.
Moments later, Riyad Mahrez gave Manchester City the lead for the first time in the game with a low shot past Lloris at his near post. With the Frenchman under the spotlight after a series of high-profile mistakes this season, most notably on Sunday against north London rivals Arsenal, he appeared to make another.
On Sunday, Bukayo Saka had crossed the ball and Lloris, trying to deflect it, almost took it to the goal.
In Sky Sports comments, Neville left viewers in no uncertain terms as to who he considered responsible for Tottenham conceding the third goal.
The Tottenham goalkeeper has faced criticism in recent weeks, especially after Arsenal’s defeat.
Tottenham led 2-0 at half-time, but Manchester City scored three times in 18 minutes.
‘The goalkeeper, I have to say, is on a losing streak. He has to save that,’ he said.
‘He hits well, Mahrez, but that can’t get past him at the near post. Despite the diversion, he has to prevent her from entering.
Wishing to leave some praise for the attacker, Neville also praised Mahrez for his role in the goal, calling his 20-minute second-half performance “outstanding”.
“But it’s been exceptional,” he said. ‘[The] first man in the first 20 minutes of this second half.’
Nevill reserved some praise for the Algerian, calling him the ‘best man’ for his second-half performance.
With the title race potentially on the line, Manchester City endured the worst possible end to the first half with Dejan Kulusevski and Emerson Royal putting Tottenham into a seemingly unlikely 2-0 lead.
Coming out of the locker room for the second half, however, Manchester City looked like a different beast, and within 20 minutes they had turned the game around.
Manchester City’s 4–2 win saw them reduce Arsenal’s lead at the top of the Premier League to five points.
