Gary Neville identifies how a senior Man United player’s comment gives worrying revelation about what’s really happening in the Red Devils dressing room

Gary Neville has identified a comment from a senior Manchester United player that could indicate trouble in the Old Trafford dressing room.

United’s poor start to the Premier League season worsened on Sunday afternoon when they lost 3-0 at home to Tottenham, leaving them 12th in the table with three defeats from six.

Brennan Johnson, Dejan Kulusevski and Dominic Solanke were all on the scoresheet, while captain Bruno Fernandes was sent off for the first time in his Red Devils career to make matters worse.

While manager Erik ten Hag has promised things will improve, many others have suggested time is running out for the Dutchman, who also delivered United’s worst ever Premier League finish (eighth) last season.

But Neville, speaking of the last episode of his Sky Sports podcastpointed to his former dressing room and suggested a player may have accidentally exposed the club’s behind-the-scenes problems.

“It was a disgusting performance, I think that’s the word I used at the end,” the ex-United defender began. ‘But do you know something? All the words I’ve used – you might see the headlines around, Neville calling Manchester United disgusting – makes me think back to Christian Eriksen’s comments after Wednesday night’s match (against Twente).

“From someone who walks around the dressing room, someone who is a very experienced player who you can trust, he has had a long, successful career, while he says they didn’t want it and didn’t want it as much as another team. in a football match that’s more important than what anyone else can say, because he’s in there and sees it with his own eyes.

‘We know that what happens there can’t be great because it reverberates on the pitch. The old saying that what happens in practice translates on the field is very true. The details of everything have to be absolutely perfect.

‘There’s no doubt that something is going wrong in that United dressing room.’

Eriksen had said in the week after the 1-1 draw against Twente in the Europa League: ‘It was also said in the dressing room, I think they looked like they wanted it more than us and that can’t be right. Everyone looks at themselves.

‘Everyone is a professional football player. They know what to do and what can’t happen in a game like today. We don’t lose, but it feels like a loss and that is something that cannot happen at home against Twente.’

Ten Hag is under increasing pressure to achieve success after his side were booed by an empty-looking Old Trafford following the defeat to Tottenham.

Neville had previously described the performance as ‘an absolute disgrace’ and said ‘pub football’ would have been better.

United’s chiefs, meanwhile, have reportedly set a deadline for Ten Hag to reverse the club’s declining fortunes following the defeat to Tottenham.

The Red Devils’ top executives apparently still support Ten Hag, but have acknowledged that a ‘quick response’ from his players is needed.

According to the Telegraph, the Dutchman will turn things around this week or face sacking, just months after being backed by new minority owner Sir Jim Ratcliffe.
