Gary Neville hammers Kai Havertz for ‘STUPID challenge’ after he went flying in on Sean Longstaff before escaping with yellow card – with THREE Newcastle players cautioned for protesting decision… before Bruno Guimaraes ELBOWS Jorginho
Gary Neville has criticized Kai Havertz for a ‘stupid’ and ‘dangerous’ challenge on Sean Longstaff in Arsenal’s match against Newcastle in which he flew into his rival.
The German midfielder’s reckless challenge sent the Newcastle players into arms and surrounding the referee, and they were stunned when Havertz escaped with a yellow card.
Commentator Gary Neville was also shocked by the first-half incident as he blasted Havertz for the tackle, claiming the player would ‘never get there’.
“It’s a stupid, stupid challenge,” he said during commentary. ‘I think it was dangerous, he never came there. He jumps in.”
Such was Newcastle’s display that three of their players were eventually booked for dissent – Anthony Gordon, Longstaff and Fabian Schar – with Neville joking that Havertz had accidentally achieved a good result with the challenge.
‘In the end he did well Havertz, booked three Newcastle players!’
