- Garmin could soon add support for rucking training
- Rumor has it that the feature could arrive by the end of the year, possibly alongside a new Instinct 3
- Rucking is a new fitness trend where you walk with a weighted backpack.
A new leak claims that some of the best Garmin smartwatches on the market could soon support rucking, one of the hottest new trends in fitness.
The news comes via leaker @Jw, reported by the 5k runner. According to the report, Garmin is about to add a new Rucking sport profile that will allow users to track specific rucking sessions, with options to manually add the weight of their pack. Once you’re out, your Garmin will reportedly track distance and pace, as well as the exercise’s impact on overall fitness metrics, including VO2 Max.
As the report notes, this would make Garmin the first smartwatch manufacturer to offer dedicated rucking tracking. According to the report, the feature could arrive by the end of the year and could debut alongside a rumored new Instinct 3, although the report notes that there is “no new information on this” and labels this speculation.
What the hell is arguing?
If you’ve never heard of rucking and don’t know what it is, don’t worry, you’re not alone. Rucking, not to be confused with the fierce battle for the ball when breaking down a rugby match, is a trendy new form of exercise that involves walking with a weighted backpack (hence the name) in the pursuit of better fitness.
Rucking has less impact on your knees and ankles than running, but the increase in weight you carry makes it almost as effective at burning fat. This makes it ideal for absolutely everyone, but especially for people who have difficulty with the demands that running places on their joints.
It’s a technique used by the military for training, and rumors that Garmin will adopt tracking for the trend could indicate that it’s about to go mainstream.
