Gareth Southgate has claimed that Luke Shaw could be available against Denmark in England’s second group match at Euro 2024 on June 20.
The England manager was speaking on Thursday after the FA confirmed the final 26-man squad that will travel to Germany to take part in the tournament which starts next week.
The likes of Jack Grealish, James Maddison and Manchester United defender Harry Maguire all missed out on selection, with the Red Devils star failing to recover from a calf injury.
Southgate opted to pick his United team-mate despite his own injury problem which saw him sidelined for four months. The Three Lions boss admitted taking the left-back is a risk but revealed he is making good progress towards fitness for the group stages.
‘He has made good progress in recent weeks.’ said Southgate. ‘At the moment we think he could have some involvement in the second group match. But he has to keep hitting the marks.

“He did a good amount of work and worked at good speeds too. I think you can take one gamble, and that’s the gamble that we have enough evidence that we can take.
‘And also positionally given the fact that he is a left-footer and can also attack in a different way, that is an option we wanted to explore.’
