Garden experts have put their colossal fruit and vegetables on display ahead of this year’s Malvern Autumn Show.

Thousands of people are expected to flock to the Worcestershire city from Friday and over the weekend to catch a glimpse of the giant greens.

Expert growers have showcased all their prized fruit and vegetables today as judging for the UK Giant Vegetable Championships begins.

They have put their oversized vegetables on display – from giant pumpkins to cucumbers over 100cm long – at the Three Counties Showground.

Records are expected to be broken every year, with this year being no exception as judges from the National Vegetable Association inspect each offering.

One of the defining features of the show is the Giant Vegetable Championships, which return again this year with more oversized fruits and vegetables.

He added: ‘It’s a 13.52kg cucumber, it was a bit of a surprise. It’s my first year participating.

‘It is a good seed and good soil that make it. I use alpaca manure. That helped, and a bit of luck.

‘It’s my first match. I’ve already tried pumpkins. But I got some cucumber seeds and I thought I’d throw them in. I managed to grow a record.

‘Mine is above average for this year, I think the previous record was 12.9kg.

‘As long as life doesn’t take over with the baby, I want to try to beat my own record. I want to try cucumbers again.’
