Gal Gadot admits she suffers from imposter syndrome

Gal Gadot has built an enviable career in Hollywood with the hit films Fast & Furious, Wonder Woman and Red Notice.

But the 38-year-old actress still feels like she doesn’t fit in Hollywood, even admitting she suffers from Imposter Syndrome, the condition where you feel anxious despite performing well.

This week, the Israeli star – who was seen in New York City this weekend – spoke out about her insecurities magazine L’Officiel while posing for glamorous photos.

“It’s funny, I always feel like I have this imposter syndrome because I feel so lucky and so happy to be doing what I really, really, really love,” the brunette beauty commented.

“I always feel like, ‘I hope they’re going to like it.’ There’s never a moment where I think, “They’re going to love this.”

It was a huge Hollywood icon that helped calm her nerves.

“I remember talking to Francis Ford Coppola and I asked him, ‘So how does it feel to be a national treasure?'” she told author Hannah Jackson.

Coppola is best known for his The Godfather trilogy.

“He said, ‘You know, something? I am always full of doubts. I’m always afraid they won’t like it. I just follow my heart and come into it humbly.” I think this was one of the greatest lessons.’

She added: “I’m sitting with the legend Francis Ford Coppola, and he’s talking about how humble and insecure he can be. I thought, “Okay, I can be insecure all the time.”‘

Her next movie is Heart Of Stone, in which she stars and also co-produces with her husband Jaron Versano.

“With Wonder Woman, we really succeeded in proving that as long as the story is universal, it’s good,” she said.

“I felt like there was room for an action movie with a female lead that would be for everyone, but more gritty and raw and grounded, rather than a polished superhero flick.

“Usually as an actor you get the script and you can discuss the script with your filmmaker, but that’s about it. In a sense, it’s super easy; you don’t have to worry about anything. But there’s something so stimulating and exciting about creating something from scratch.

She likes her character to be flawed.

“I had already done it and loved doing the superhero of it all, and I wanted to show a real person.

‘I wanted to create a woman who has learned to do everything herself. She can never be an open book; she can never fully trust anyone.

And that was also part of the reason why I love Tom Harper, our director, because I remember seeing Wild Rose with Jessie Buckley. It’s a small story, but he managed to write it in a super character driven way. For me it was more important to bring a director who cares about emotional performances and the story than about what the action looks like.

And she enjoys working with her husband.

‘Jaron and I were always on the same wavelength. He’s from the business side, and we had a really great opportunity when he sold his entire company [real estate] portfolio in Tel Aviv.

“Either he went into real estate or came to work for me, and I thought, ‘Let’s work together,’ because he was the missing piece. Jaron is business minded and who better to represent my interests than my life partner.

She hopes the audience is enthusiastic.

“We wanted it to be suspenseful and exciting and to have people on the edge of their seats, not just a story where you can tell what the ending is going to be,” said Gal.

So that’s a tough question for me to answer in terms of inspiration, because we’ve tried not to take too much from others.

“We made a big movie, like the Mission Impossible and Bond movies. We shot at five different locations. It was important to us that almost everything we could have done in real life, we actually did, as far as the action is concerned. But we really tried to make an original piece, and I hope it feels that way.”

They filmed in it Iceland, Morocco, Lisbon, London and Italy in the Alps.

“They’re all special. I have to say that I really enjoyed Lisbon very much, because I had never been there. I enjoyed it, the people, the food and the culture. It was so easy to film there. There was good energy.’

comes later Snow White, where she plays the villain.

“It was a great transition. I can’t believe I get to play the Evil Queen, the first evil villain in Disney history.

“I get to sing and explore my theatrical, evil dark side. The first four days I was really in character, meaning it was hard for me to get out of character, I was so in it.

‘It’s like making theatre. Everything is bigger. Everything is more dramatic. It was very fun.’
