  • The Arsenal star will not feature in their friendlies against England and Spain
  • Erik ten Hag WILL NOT survive at Man United after the end of the season, even if he wins the FA Cup It all starts podcast

The withdrawal of Gabriel Magalhaes from the Brazil squad for the upcoming friendlies against England and Spain is not due to a serious injury.

Instead, the 26-year-old Arsenal defender has been removed from the squad as a precaution, Mail Sport understands.

Confirmation of his removal from the squad came from the Brazilian Football Association on Monday, with Juventus centre-back Bremer brought in as his replacement.

“I had previously communicated that we would be working with a slightly more extensive list,” Brazil manager Dorival Junior explains.

‘A pre-notification – that’s how we can put it – and today we had another victim. Unfortunately, Gabriel Magalhaes was not called up. We will call Bremer from Juventus instead.’

The initial news of Gabriel’s injury came as a blow to Arsenal as he has been a defensive rock for the Gunners this season.

He and William Saliba hold down the fort at the back for Mikel Arteta’s side as they look to secure the Premier League title this season.

Gabriel played the entire Champions League last-16 win against Porto last Tuesday and showed no signs of injury.

Shortly after the match, he was included in the Brazil squad for their upcoming friendlies with England and Spain.

However, Gabriel – who has made just six appearances for his national team – was later left out of the squad.

But Mail Sport’s chief football reporter Sami Mokbel confirmed he had been withdrawn from the squad as a precaution.
