Living in fear: Gabby Logan, 49, was terrified her son Reuben would die before she was 16 after her brother died as a teenager

Gabby, the mother of both Reuben, now 17, and his twin sister Lois, explained on A CEO’s Diary with Steven Bartlett podcast according to the Mirror: “When my son was almost 16 – a few days after Daniel’s birthday – I realized that I had worried that he wouldn’t be 16 because Daniel never got there.

“So I was afraid I would repeat history.”

Gabby said she was also obsessed with the birth dates of young footballers when she first started working for television, fearing they would meet the same fate as her brother.

Daniel, who was four years her junior, had an undiagnosed heart problem and died in 1992 after playing football in the yard with their father, former Leeds United star Terry Yorath.

Gabby added: “Even a few years later I could find myself sobbing. When I started working in football, I was obsessed with the birthdates of players, because they would be Daniel’s age.

“And I knew he might play in that game. You wonder, ‘What kind of player would he have been?’ I wonder if he’d had a girlfriend by now, or met someone he wanted to marry, or now I wonder if he’d have children.’

Elsewhere on the podcast, Gabby talked about her husband Kenny’s treatment for prostate cancer, saying he had “six stab wounds he must have in his torso.”

Former Scottish rugby player Kenny, 50, was diagnosed with cancer in February after Gabby, 49, urged him to see a doctor.

She said: ‘Hey [Kenny] was really upset as you can imagine and I just thought, “Okay, no, this is going to be all right, what are we going to do? What are the answers here?”

“His neurologist was brilliant, he is a brilliant communicator and told us what the options were and I was.

‘[I said] We just need to make a plan, you need to know what you’re doing and then we’ll stay positive about it.

“That’s what we really did. Once we got over the initial shock, we really focused on it as a project that we were dealing with and it’s a terrible operation.”

BBC sports presenter Gabby and Kenny share two children and she said deep down she feels she won’t lose her husband to cancer.

Breaking into tears as she talked about her rock, Gabby said Kenny must have had six stab wounds to his torso that were “very serious.”

Gabby said, “It’s terrible to see him in the pain he had afterwards, it’s terrible to go through, but he’s really doing really well now.”

And as she composed herself, she added: ‘He’s just amazing, I’m very lucky. He’s a great man and I could never wish for someone to share my life with who is better.”
