G7 countries are reportedly discussing a ban ahead of next month’s Hiroshima summit.
The Group of Seven (G7) countries are considering a near-total ban on exports to Russia, Japan’s Kyodo News reported, citing Japanese government sources.
Bloomberg News also reported Thursday that the United States and Ukraine’s allies were considering “an outright ban on most exports to Russia.” That report said officials from G7 countries were discussing the idea for a summit in Japan next month.
When asked about the Bloomberg report, Hirokazu Matsuno, Japan’s chief of cabinet, said the government was aware of it but did not comment on exchanges between G7 countries and like-minded countries about possible further sanctions against Russia.
“What is important to end Russian aggression as soon as possible is that the G7 remains united for strong sanctions against Russia and strong support for Ukraine,” he told a news conference.
