FX and Hulu release first teaser for Alien: Earth TV series, and it’s the most disappointing trailer I’ve seen in a while

It’s a good time to have a Stranger fan. With Alien: Romulus The latest film in the sci-fi horror franchise, which has received rave reviews and has grossed a healthy amount of box office since its August 16 release, appears to be reviving interest in the Xenomorph-starring film series.

You would think that this is the perfect time to make people aware of the very first Stranger TV series is coming. Well, that’s what FX Networks and Hulu have done, with the duo releasing the first teaser for Alien: Earthwhich is set to release sometime in 2025 on Hulu (in the US) and Disney Plus (international).

There is just one small problem with Alien: Earth‘s first-look footage. I tried to be as polite as possible, but it’s probably the most disappointing teaser I’ve seen in a long time. Think I’m exaggerating? Check it out for yourself below:

See what I mean? In my opinion, it does absolutely nothing to sell the upcoming series to anyone who isn’t a diehard Stranger fan. It may be a 15-second video, but since five of those precious seconds are devoted to the title card at the end of the teaser, we actually only get 10 seconds of footage, which only shows planet Earth reflected in the glowing head of a xenomorph before it screams at the camera.

Now I know what you’re thinking: “Tom, the definition of a teaser is just that! All it does is tease more of what’s to come.” I hear you loud and clear, reader, and it’s certainly better than the redundant, overly long teasers we’ve come to expect from studios that practically outline the entire plot of new movies and TV shows before they’re even released. Maybe it’s just me, but I was hoping for a little more than what Alien: Earth‘s first-look footage. Would it be too much to ask to see something like this? Alien: Romulus‘ menacing first trailer, which suggested the tense tone and grimy neo-futuristic vibe of the Fede Alvarez-directed film? Not in my opinion.

Who are the actors in Alien: Earth? And what is the story about?

Obviously, the aforementioned teaser – to me it’s nothing more than a TV spot, but oh well – doesn’t provide any answers to the above questions, but luckily, Alien: Earthofficial webpage of ‘s does. Here’s the short plot synopsis that’s on the website: “When a mysterious spaceship crashes on Earth, a young woman (Sydney Chandler) and a ragtag group of tactical soldiers make a fateful discovery that brings them face to face with the planet’s greatest threat in FX’s highly anticipated TV series Alien: Earth from creator Noah Hawley.”

As the story briefly confirms, Noah Hawley, whose previous credits in the industry include Fargo (one of the best Hulu shows), LegionAnd Bonesis Alien: Earth‘s creator, as well as the main writer and director. Chandler, who some readers may recognize from the Olivia Wilde-directed Don’t worry darling and Disney Plus TV Original Pistolis the main character of the show. Per TermChandler plays a character named Wendy, who “has the body of an adult, but the brain and consciousness of a child.”

Join Chandler on Alien: EarthThe cast includes a number of well-known names, including Timothy Olyphant (The Mandalorian, Terminator Zero), Kit Jong (Shadow and bone), Alex Lawther (Andor), Sandra Yi Sencindiver (Foundation), and Essie Davies (Game of Thrones, One day).

As I said above, Alien: Earth won’t be launching on two of the world’s top streaming services until 2025. Hopefully we’ll hear an official release date sooner rather than later. And when that announcement is made, I expect it to come with a much better trailer.
