Fussy eater pays an extra £300 to bring additional suitcase filled with Pot Noodles, crisps, sausages and even a George Foreman grill so he can have bacon butties on holiday – despite going all-inclusive

A fussy eater paid an extra £300 so he could take an extra suitcase filled with Pot Noodles, chips, sausages and a George Foreman grill on his all-inclusive holiday – so he could get bacon butts.

John Phillips, 40, took a whopping 21 Pot Noodles, 86 bags of chips, two packs of bacon, a pack of 30 sausages, cans of tuna, a block of cheese and brown sauce on his £1,400 trip to Egypt last year.

And to satisfy the picky eater’s sweet tooth, his wife Rebecca, 29, added another 30 Club Biscuit bars, 16 bags of sweets and breakfast bars.

The overwhelming inventory, including the cost of checking another suitcase, cost the family an extra £300, bringing their holiday total to £1,700, but Rebecca said the extra luggage ‘doesn’t irritate her’, as she claimed it does would do. “I wouldn’t enjoy the trip if her husband wasn’t eating.

The mother-of-one started packing the dried goods for John three years ago when he refused to eat anything but chips during their trips abroad.

They even pack a George Foreman grill in their checked luggage so truck driver-trainer John can enjoy bacon and sausage butts along the way.

But this usually means Rebecca dining alone on holiday, with John admitting that he only pays for the ‘free beer’ on all-inclusive trips.

Rebecca, from Stoke-on-Trent, Staffordshire, said: ‘I go on holiday and I eat everything but he doesn’t. That’s how he’s always been.

‘He loves food, but because he is picky he doesn’t eat it and I don’t like going away with someone who can’t enjoy the food like me.’

At that point, Rebecca decided enough was enough and started packing the dry meals and sweet treats for the couple’s two-week vacation.

‘Then we started bringing meat. We put ice packs in food containers and put the meat in,” she said.

‘We didn’t know if it would work, but it did. When we took out the food after the flight, it was still very cold.’

Beer lover John admitted that he has been a picky eater since childhood and preferred ‘good old fashioned English’ food.

John said: ‘I like the comfort of home when I go abroad. So instead of looking for decent food, I just bring my own.

‘I’ve always been a picky eater, I don’t eat many vegetables at all. I like good old-fashioned English food, chips, sausage and gravy, that sort of thing.’

He revealed that he can normally last the entire trip with a full suitcase, but it was empty a few days earlier.

It’s an expense, but normally you still spend money on your weekly shop when you’re back in England,” he said.

‘I’m only interested in the free beer with the all-inclusive, I don’t really care about the food.

“Why go on vacation and worry about food when I can take it with me?”

Resigned Rebecca said having a selective eating partner for a husband is just “normal life” for the couple – accepting her partner will never change his ways.

Rebecca said, “It doesn’t bother me. I love food and I love cooking, so the fact that he’s happy with something he’ll enjoy is what I prefer.

“It was more me saying, ‘let’s take this.’ [on holiday]’ and it just piled up. I wouldn’t enjoy the holidays if he didn’t eat.

‘He only eats the food we brought. If he comes to the hotel restaurant with me, he might pick some bread.

‘We’ve been on boat trips before and I brought a Pot Noodle.

‘I think the only disadvantage is that you eat alone. For us it is now a normal lifestyle. I don’t think he will change, this is it now.’

Rebecca shared a video on her TikTok page of the suitcase full of food she takes on the couple’s three annual trips abroad, which has been viewed more than 200,000 times.

Rebecca said: “In the TikTok comments they just called him a kid.

But some people were really impressed and said they had to know the ice pack trick.

“People laugh about it, they can’t believe it.”
