Fury as Texas husband accused of strangling pregnant wife is released on $1million bond

A Texas man has been released on a $1 million bond despite allegedly killing his pregnant wife.

Lee Gilley, 38, has been charged with the murder of his professor wife Christa, 38, who was pregnant when she was strangled at their home in Houston, Texas, on October 7.

Police say Gilley, who was arrested on October 11, tried to make his wife’s murder look like a suicide.

Christa’s family has said they are disappointed that Gilley was able to escape from prison on Thursday, reports continue Click on 2 Houston.

“We are deeply disappointed that the defendant entered into bond just a week after Christa’s death, but we are focused on the safety and well-being of Christa’s children,” a family attorney said in a statement.

Attorney Ed McClees said Gilley is devastated by the loss of his wife.

“There is more unknown than known at this point,” McClees said of Christa’s death.

Prosecutors say Lee called 911 on Oct. 7, claiming Christa had committed suicide by overdosing and that he was performing CPR.

Lee told police that he and Christa had an argument before he went to sleep and woke up three hours later to find her unresponsive.

Christa was taken to hospital, where she was pronounced dead.

According to court documents, doctors soon discovered injuries on her body that were inconsistent with a suicide attempt.

Christa’s autopsy revealed that she died “due to neck compression,” as her injuries were consistent with strangulation.

Prosecutors say Lee admitted that Christa was not suicidal or a drug user.
