Furious Matildas fans say Channel Seven’s streaming service crashed at the worst possible time during the opening of the World Cup
Football fans have taken to Twitter to express their frustration after problems with Channel Seven’s streaming service ahead of Australia’s World Cup opener.
Seven has won the broadcast rights to the women’s tournament – co-hosted by Australia and New Zealand – with the network showing a handful of high-profile games during the competition.
As such, Seven broadcast Australia’s opening game against Ireland in Sydney with the Matildas looking for a winning start despite being without Sam Kerr – who injured her calf in training on Wednesday.
But many fans claimed that they were unable to watch the game due to issues on Seven’s streaming platform, 7plus.
“Why is your app not working!!!” a fan wrote. “Find it out Channel 7…Jeez!!”
Another said, “Gosh, if only someone could have predicted that millions of people would all want to use 7plus at the same time tonight…”
“How’s your platform @7plus doing?” said a third fan. “3 different browsers 3 different error messages telling you why you can’t broadcast.”
However, one fan saw the funny side.
“7plus crashed with people watching the Matildas,” the fan said with laughing emojis.
