Fulham have completed the signing of Leicester defender Timothy Castagne for £13.5 million.

The full-back, who can play either side or as a full-back, has moved to the Cottagers on a four-year deal, with an option for an additional year.

Marco Silva has been desperately trying to strengthen his squad after a mixed start to the new Premier League season and sees the versatile defender as a perfect match.

Mail Sport revealed on Sunday that Fulham and Leicester had continued talks over a move to Castagne and have now unveiled him as their latest signing after the player underwent medical treatment on Monday.

After his arrival was confirmed, Castagne told FFCtv: “I feel very good. It’s been a long transfer window, but I’m finally here and I’m happy to be here.

“It’s a great relief. I’ve spoken to the manager and I can’t wait to start training and playing.’

Fulham vice-chairman and director of football operations, Tony Khan, also expressed his delight at the signing of the 33-time Belgium international.

“I am delighted to welcome Timothy Castagne to Fulham,” he said. “He is a versatile and very talented defender with a lot of experience in the Premier League and the international competition for Belgium.

“I am delighted that Timothy has committed to a four-year contract with us and we believe he will be an excellent addition to Marco’s squad!”

After starting his professional career with Genk, the 27-year-old moved to Atalanta, where his performances caught the attention of several clubs.

The Belgian joined Leicester from Serie A three years ago on a £22 million contract and helped the club win the FA Cup a year later, while also playing for them in both the Europa League and Europa Conference League.

He spent three years with the King Power, making 112 appearances in all competitions, although he was also involved in the Foxes’ relegation to the Championship last season.

Castagne will compete with Kenny Tete, Kevin Mbabu and Antonee Robinson for playing time in the fullback positions at Craven Cottage.

His new side pulled off an impressive 2-2 draw against Arsenal last weekend, despite playing the latter part of the match with 10 men after Calvin Bassey was sent off.

They play against Tottenham in the Carabao Cup on Tuesday evening, before traveling to Manchester City on Saturday.
