  • Todd Boehly is looking for a new head coach after Graham Potter was fired

Fulham boss Marco Silva has reportedly emerged as a surprise candidate to land the vacant Chelsea job after Graham Potter was sacked on Sunday.

Blues chairman Todd Boehly ended Potter’s spell in west London following their disappointing 2-0 defeat at home to Aston Villa on Saturday night.

Potter’s men were comfortably swept away by Unai Emery’s visitors thanks to goals from Ollie Watkins and John McGinn that day.

The result left Chelsea 11th in the table and, with a crucial Champions League quarter-final clash with Real Madrid just around the corner, has forced Boehly to act.

Several of Europe’s top directors have already been linked with the vacant role, however a surprising candidate from the Premier League has also emerged.

Graham Potter was sacked as Chelsea manager on Sunday after their 2-0 loss to Aston Villa.

According MirrorFulham manager Silva has admirers at Stamford Bridge and is one of the frontrunners to replace Potter at Chelsea.

The Portuguese manager has helped oversee Fulham’s tremendous season so far, with his side sitting one place above their west London rivals.

Silva, who previously managed at Hull, Everton and Watford, took charge of the Cottagers after they were relegated and helped inspire their return to the top flight.

The same outlet claims that both Julian Nagelsmann and Mauricio Pochettino are also still in contention for the job at Chelsea.

Chelsea announced their decision to part ways with Graham Potter on Sunday night, with Bruno Saltor set to take over on an interim basis.

A statement from the club read: ‘Chelsea FC have announced that Graham Potter has left the club. Graham has agreed to work with the club to facilitate a smooth transition.

“During his time at the club, Graham has led us to the quarterfinals of the Champions League, where we will face Real Madrid.

“Chelsea would like to thank Graham for all his efforts and contributions and wish him the best for the future.”

Potter, who left Brighton for Chelsea in September, had repeatedly stated that despite the club’s difficulties, he felt he had the full support of the Stamford Bridge owners.

If the Blues make a move for Silva from Fulham, he could see a fiery figure arrive on the Stamford Bridge touchline, following the FA manager’s recent charge.

Fulham boss Silva has led his side to tenth in the table, in his first season back in the top flight.

Silva, as well as Aleksandar Mitrovic and Willian, were sent off during the chaotic 3-1 FA Cup quarter-final loss at Old Trafford earlier this month.

The Fulham manager gave an explosive post-match interview in which he lashed out at Chris Kavanagh, stating that his team had been “unlucky” with the referee this season and seemed to suggest that he did not treat both sides equally on the day.

The FA charged the Portuguese manager with misconduct for comments that “imply bias and/or call into question the integrity of the match official, and/or bring the game into disrepute.”

It adds to previous charges for displaying abusive behavior towards match officials and for allegedly throwing a water bottle in the direction of the assistant referee in the same match.
