Fulham seeks to reinforce their defensive options after making an approach to Rennes for Hamari Traore.

The Mali international has spent five seasons at the Ligue 1 club with 224 appearances in all competitions.

Marco Silva is looking to strengthen his team despite his excellent return to the Premier League.

Fulham have approached Rennes over their 30-year-old Malian defender Hamari Traore.

Traore has made more than 200 passes in five seasons with Rennes and has been linked with Roma

Following their 2-1 win over Chelsea on Thursday night, they sit sixth with 31 points after 19 games, three more than they managed in the entire 2020-21 season, in which they were relegated to the Championship.

Before his Chelsea match, when Silva was asked about the January window, he said: “We’re looking for players, but I’m not a big fan of turning things around in the January market.

‘It’s only if something has gone wrong, and that’s not the case. We have strengthened ourselves in some positions, which is what we are doing, with a lot of ambition.

“We are happy with the team, but maybe we need to strengthen two or three positions.”

French publication Foot Market have reported that an offer worth £3.5m will be needed to sign Traore, and there have also been reports that Roma are interested in the player as well.
