Fulham 0-0 Liverpool – Premier League: Live score, team news and updates as Jurgen Klopp’s side chase opener in bid to keep pace with Arsenal at the top
GOAL: Fulham 0-1 Liverpool (Trent Alexander-Arnold)
Fulham 0-0 Liverpool
That’s a terrible tackle from Palhinha on Jota in a similar position to the previous one and he rightly gets a yellow card.
Liverpool will get another chance where I think Alexander-Arnold will take the lead this time.
Fulham 0-0 Liverpool
Harvey Elliott and Alexander-Arnold debated for hours over who should take the free-kick, and in the end the former took the ball but rolled his shot against the underside of the Fulham wall.
Fulham 0-0 Liverpool
Palhinha follows up that shot with a foul on Cody Gakpo in a good shooting position on the edge of the area.
It suits a left-footer for Liverpool.
Fulham 0-0 Liverpool
Fulham are deep in Liverpool’s half with a man advantage and Palhinha is in an acre of space on the edge of the penalty area.
The ball is cut back to him, but his shot is tame and straight at Alisson.
Fulham 0-0 Liverpool
Just as I say, Diogo Jota bundles in a half-chance from six yards that hits him in the knee before drifting behind for a goal kick.
Those are the kind of goal chances you would want Salah to score.
Fulham 0-0 Liverpool
Mo Salah is on the bench today and you wonder how long Klopp will wait before deciding to introduce him.
Liverpool have started strongly but have had chances where you think Salah would punish.
Fulham 0-0 Liverpool
Iwobi picks up a ball sent wide of him and his ball into the penalty area is good. He passes Van Dijk, but only as far as Quansah, who throws the ball back into the penalty area at the other end.
Fulham 0-0 Liverpool
Fulham are showing signs that they are starting to settle for a cross into Liverpool’s penalty area.
It’s one-way traffic at the moment, but expect Liverpool’s fast start to eventually slow down.
Fulham 0-0 Liverpool
Liverpool play some beautiful football, with the defense quickly shutting down Fulham’s attack before moving the ball quickly through midfield and trying to find Diaz in the background.
Fulham 0-0 Liverpool
The Reds continue to knock on the door as Fulham defenders are caught backing up in defense and Diaz once again finds himself with the ball at his feet in the penalty area.
The Colombian’s first touch takes him away from goal and Bassey clears the danger in theatrical fashion.
Fulham 0-0 Liverpool
A bad ball in the penalty area finds Luis Diaz, who has a great chance to score with an early header, but ultimately goes completely wrong when he heads into the ground. Dear me, what a letdown for Fulham.
Fulham 0-0 Liverpool
Liverpool try to get almost all their players on the ball in the first few minutes and that will probably be the theme today as Fulham look to play on the counter.
KICK-OFF: Fulham 0-0 Liverpool
Here come the players…
Both groups of players now walk out of the Craven Cottage tunnel. Kickoff is now just moments away.
No nerves for Klopp
There is a reason why Liverpool fans are nervous today, given that defeat could put them out of reach in the title race.
However, Reds boss Jurgen Klopp is all smiles ahead of the match and appears confident before things get underway soon.
Fulham’s recent home form
Today’s home team suffered a narrow 1-0 defeat to Newcastle at Craven Cottage last time out, but can boast a strong home run with wins against Tottenham, Aston Villa and Brighton before that.
Marco Silva’s team are fierce opponents on their own field and you feel that Liverpool will have to find form under their sometimes powerless attacking trio to take three points today.
Scores elsewhere
There are a few games elsewhere in the Premier League today. Everton beat Nottingham Forest 2-0 in a big clash at the bottom of the table.
Elsewhere, Liverpool’s conquerors Crystal Palace were 4-1 up against West Ham at half-time.
While Aston Villa also draw 1-1 against Bournemouth at half-time.
Meanwhile, Nottingham Forest have launched an extraordinary statement on VAR, which you can read in the article below.
Pre-match statistics
Fulham have won just one of their last 11 league matches against Liverpool – a 1-0 win at Anfield in 2021.
However, Liverpool have not kept a clean sheet at Craven Cottage since 2009 and if they lose today it will be their first successive top-flight defeat since Bournemouth and Man City in April 2023.
Klopp explains Salah’s omission
We play three matches in six days. I hate to think about the match after the match ahead, but in our situation we cannot ignore this fact, so we are making changes to get new legs to use the squad.
“It’s the best situation we’ve had all year team-wise, so that’s why we’re doing it. We need them all to get started or move forward.
We have to be 100 percent for 95 or 98 minutes. I spoke to Mo and everything is fine.
Situation
Liverpool can therefore finish at the top together with Arsenal if they can get three points today.
Easier said than done, as the recent draw against Manchester United and the defeat against Crystal Palace suggest.
Defeat today, knowing how consistent Manchester City and Arsenal can be, would likely be a harbinger of their title challenge.
TEAM NEWS: Liverpool
Well, just look at that bench. Probably the team you would expect if Liverpool decided to rest players for their Europa League match against Atalanta on Thursday.
Mohamed Salah, Darwin Nunez, Alexis Mac Allister, Dominik Szoboslai and Ibrahima Konate are all on the bench.
Diogo Jota starts up front for the Reds with Cody Gakpo and Harvey Elliott.
Some big calls from Klopp, perhaps with the Merseyside Derby in mind this week.
TEAM NEWS: Fulham
Decent team offered by the hosts. One notable absence is that of Willian, and manager Marco Silva has confirmed it is nothing serious, but he is out with a groin strain.
