Fugitive American mother who ‘fled to the UK after murdering her children’ faces extradition as autopsy reveals her son and daughter were ‘drugged with sleep medication’ and shot in the head

A fugitive American mother who fled to Britain after allegedly shooting dead her two children is being threatened with extradition to the US.

Kimberlee Singler, 35, allegedly killed her two children Elianna “Ellie” Wentz, 9, and Aden Wentz, 7, in their Colorado Springs home in December after drugging them with sleep medication.

Autopsy reports released last week by local coroners show that both children had gunshot wounds to the head and lacerations to their necks.

Potentially toxic levels of doxylamine – a drug commonly found in sleep aids and allergy medications – were detected in the blood of Ellie and her brother Aden.

Singler later went on the run for two weeks after Colorado police launched an investigation, sparking an international manhunt.

The 35-year-old was arrested by the National Crime Agency at a hotel in Kensington, west London, on December 30.

She later appeared at Westminster Magistrates’ Court on New Year’s Day, where extradition proceedings were initiated.

Singler also allegedly injured herself and her 11-year-old daughter, who has not been identified, before calling 911 in the early morning of December 19 and reporting the attack as a burglary.

Police responded to the call and found Singler and her surviving daughter, 11, lying next to the dead bodies of her other daughter and son.

However, Singler’s claim that the attack was a burglary was later found to be unfounded.

Forensic pathologist Dr. Megan Kliesner said in her report: ‘Autopsy and investigation indicate that these injuries were sustained as a result of the deliberate actions of another person.’

It The same day, a judge ordered police to locate the children after failing to deliver them to their father, Kevin Wentz, 38.

Court records show that Singler, who was representing himself, went to a public library prior to a hearing on Dec. 20 and filed a motion requesting a continuation of the hearing that day.

Wentz alleged that Singler made allegations of both domestic violence and child abuse against him, which a U.S. court found unfounded.

In the motion, she states that an unknown person broke into her home on December 18 and attacked her and three children.

She claimed she was weak, in a lot of pain and was unable to call 911 until after midnight on December 19.

The 35-year-old has been charged with two counts of first-degree murder, one count of attempted murder, three counts of child abuse and one count of assault.

District Judge Billing told Westminster Magistrates Court: “These are the most serious offences. It seems she has no real ties to this country.

“She left the US knowing exactly what was going to happen to her and fled to this country.

“I don’t see that there are any conditions that I could impose to give me confidence that she will return to court knowing what awaits her in the US.”

Singler was involved in a lengthy custody battle with her ex-husband Kevin Wentz, who issued a press release after the alleged murders, revealing the names of his two deceased children.

He claimed the incident was related to his divorce from Singler, which dates back to September 2018.

Wentz said Singler had made allegations of both domestic violence and child abuse against him. Larimer County Court in Colorado later dismissed the claims.

However, the battle continued well into 2023, when Singler was granted a temporary protective order against Wentz in a Colorado court after she allegedly claimed he brandished a knife at her.

Wentz denied the accusation, but the order remained in effect until Jan. 24 and an appeal hearing was scheduled.

Singler also filed an emergency motion in district court on Nov. 17 to attempt to limit Wentz’s parenting time based on those same allegations, but the court vacated the order after finding there was no imminent threat.

The court even ordered Singler to pay Wentz’s legal bills and give him time to make up what he lost due to the order.

Singler did not comply with these guidelines and did not bring the children to Wentz on the scheduled exchange date of December 16, Wentz alleged.

Both he and his legal representatives tried to contact his ex-wife but received no response.

Wentz was granted an emergency motion for law enforcement assistance on December 18 to enforce parenting time and scheduled a status conference for two days later, ordering Singler to appear with the children.

But by December 19, two of the three children were dead.

Wentz said he has fully cooperated with the police investigation into the killings.

a Gofundme has started helping the surviving family and has raised more than $10,000 for its cause as of Wednesday.

A spokesperson for the National Crime Agency said: ‘Officers from the National Crime Agency’s National Extradition Unit arrested a 35-year-old woman wanted in the United States of America for crimes including two murders and one attempted murder.’

Singler is due to appear in court in London on February 26 for a hearing.
