Erling Haaland will now tackle a completely new type of defense as he becomes a character in his favorite video game, Clash of Clans.

Haaland has proven to be the revelation everyone expected him to be in the Premier League since his arrival at the start of last season, scoring an impressive 57 goals in just 62 appearances for Manchester City.

As a result, he has become known as arguably the best No. 9 in the world and has taken City to new heights by helping them secure a Treble with their first Champions League crown last season.

But now he joins Clash of Clans, one of the world’s most popular mobile games, with more than 2 billion downloads since its initial release.

Haaland becomes the first ever character based on a real person, and can be found under the name Barbarian King in the Supercell-developed game in which players build their own villages before launching attacks on their enemies to gain power.

The Norway international posted another promo ad, claiming: ‘From the pitch to the battlefield! I am the new Barbarian King in Clash of Clans.’

He added: “It’s been hard to keep this quiet, but I’m excited to finally talk about this epic collaboration with Clash of Clans.

“I’ve been a big fan of the game for a long time and know everything about it, so it’s really cool to appear as an in-game character.”

The attacker was featured in an advertisement announcing the news, which showed him in his own home, captured by other characters and transported into the game.

In the video game, his likeness, the Barbarian King, has the same iconic ponytail hairstyle, but is dressed in golden armor and gloves.

He then immediately helps his new teammates by performing keepy-uppies with a bomb, before acrobatically firing it into an enemy fortress and leading the attack through the broken wall.

Stuart McGaw, Managing Director of Clash of Clans, said: “When we heard that Haaland was a fan of our game and that he wanted to work with us, it really was a dream scenario.

“Our team has done everything to bring him, one of the best athletes in the world, into the world of the game so that our players could enjoy a very special moment.”
