In preparation for the season, young players are often given the chance to impress in the first team, and that was certainly the case this summer.
With a number of stars missing large parts of their pre-season due to their involvement in the European Championship and Copa America, a number of outstanding talents have seized their chance.
It will be interesting to see if the young players can claim playing time if it actually happens.
Despite competition from established players, these star performers are hard to ignore.

Oscar Bobb – Manchester City
Bobb was part of City’s squad last season and scored the winning goal against Newcastle in the closing stages of the season.
Now the 21-year-old is keen to make the most of his time in Pep Guardiola’s team, and his performances during pre-season have certainly helped in that regard.
Bobb scored against Celtic and Chelsea and set up Bernardo Silva’s late equaliser against Manchester United in the Community Shield.
The Norwegian international is very direct in his approach and his tricks often cause problems for opponents.
Given City’s star status, Bobb will struggle to get a regular start, but he will be determined to play a prominent role.

Ethan Nwaneri – Arsenal
Nwaneri came into the limelight in September 2022 when he became the youngest player ever to play in the Premier League at the age of 15 years and 181 days, coming on as a substitute against Brentford, making him the youngest player ever to do so.
Since then, Nwaneri has made just one competitive first-team appearance, coming on as a substitute against West Ham last season.
Now it looks like Nwaneri will get the chance to play more often after impressing during the pre-season.
The 17-year-old has put in some great performances in pre-season, including a fantastic assist against Manchester United, and he seems to be settling into the first team.
With his excellent passing and dribbling, Nwaneri fits in perfectly with the way Mikel Arteta wants his team to play.

Trey Nyoni – Liverpool
Promising England youth international Nyoni made his debut for Liverpool against Southampton in the FA Cup last season, becoming the youngest player ever to play for the Reds in that competition.
The 17-year-old midfielder, who previously played for Leicester, continued to impress during pre-season under new manager Arne Slot.
Nyoni scored in the 4-1 friendly win over Sevilla at Anfield, increasing calls for more first-team playing time.
Slot has urged caution, suggesting the young man still needs to develop physically.
However, Nyoni’s talent is undeniable and he will be determined to take every chance he is given.

Mikey Moore – Tottenham
Moore made two Premier League appearances for Tottenham at the end of last season when he was just 16. A player with huge potential, he can operate as a striker, winger or midfielder.
The star player boasts an impressive record of 17 goals in 22 games for Tottenham Under-18s, while he has scored ten goals in 12 games for England Under-17s.
Moore has now signed his first professional contract with Tottenham and impressed for Ange Postecoglou’s side during pre-season.
After scoring against Hearts and Vissel Kobe, Moore is now in with a chance of more playing time in Tottenham’s first team.
In addition to his goal production, Moore’s play is also of a high standard.

Toby Collyer – Manchester United
Collyer is a midfielder who joined Manchester United’s youth academy from Brighton in 2022 and is seen as a highly regarded talent.
Collyer ended an encouraging pre-season with his United debut as a substitute against Manchester City in the Community Shield.
United manager Erik ten Hag was present when Collyer signed a new contract with the club last month, which shows how much the Dutchman values the youngster.
Collyer plays with a lot of confidence and wants to gain as much experience as possible this season.
United’s midfield has often been criticised in recent years, but Collyer may offer something different.

Jamie Miley – Newcastle
His younger brother Lewis has already gained a lot of experience at Newcastle and now Jamie Miley wants to do the same.
Jamie provided assists in friendlies against Hull City and Urawa Red Diamonds, showing what he can do.
The 20-year-old is primarily a midfielder, but has also shown he can play well as a right back.
There are suggestions that Miley could be loaned out before the transfer window closes.
However, he will be happy to take any risk he gets at Newcastle.

Harrison Armstrong – Everton
Armstrong, a 17-year-old midfielder with a bright future, impressed for Everton during pre-season.
The youngster has already made a difference for Everton in the Under-21s and he is now determined to do the same in the senior side.
