From Taylor to trailers, here are Polygon’s Super Bowl predictions

Here at Polygon, we’re not the kind to scoff at the Super Bowl – some of our favorite colleagues love football! It’s just that there’s so much more to the biggest American television event of the year that piques our interest, and this year is no different.

With Usher making Jujutsu Kaisen references, Taylor Swift coming off tour and the blockbuster summer movie season approaching, Super Bowl LVIII looks poised to uphold the event’s undying relevance for at least another year.

This is where Polygon employees are putting our (metaphorical) money on:

  • Taylor Swift in the stands and on camera: If we had a bingo card this would be the… empty space.
  • Usher’s halftime show references anime: He has already shown his appreciation for anime fans.
  • Just the same Computer Games: With Super Bowl halftime shows rarely going to performers without a decade or two of reliable mass appeal under their belt, you gotta do it something to attract the attention of the youth.
  • Trailers for multiple sequels: Both Inside out 2 (June 14) and Twisters (July 19) are expected to see full trailers ahead of their summer debut.
  • Deadpool 3 gets a title and trailer with at least one MCU character in it: I dare to dream about it Deadpool slays the Marvel Cinematic Universe?
  • Taylor Swift as Dazzler in the Deadpool 3 trailer: Rumors of this mashup have been going around for ages, and with Swift in the Super Bowl news, it seems like just that Deadpool 3‘s marketing would like to take advantage of this.
  • Cringe Apple Vision Pro reference: Has Apple’s $3,500 swing into the world of virtual reality – sorry, “spatial computing” – made enough of an impression to make it to the big game?
  • M&Ms that reference last year’s controversy: Last year’s M&M Super Bowl marketing stunt broke control when it happened to coincide with conservative pundits.
  • No crypto advertisements of any kind: The end of an era…
  • Obligatory reference to Janet Jackson/Justin Timberlake’s halftime show: It’s been twenty years since the world was introduced to the phrase “wardrobe malfunction.”

What’s on your Super Bowl bingo card this year?
