“This was a huge departure from the politics followed by the Congress party which was mainly based on vote bank considerations,” the Science and Technology Minister said.
He said the BJP is a party that has ensured a fair deal for every citizen, following the mantra of “justice for all, reconciliation for none”.
Singh said there were times when a returning officer would reject all nomination papers and accept only that of the ruling party candidate and declare him the undisputed winner even before election day.
“From there we entered a long period of militancy, during which elections were held for over thirty years under fear of guns and with calls for boycotts by Pakistan and separatist groups, resulting in only eight to ten percent of the polls administered by a handful voters. individuals and families to perpetuate their rule from generation to generation,” Singh said.
The senior BJP leader said this was the first time mainstreaming of democracy took place in J&K and the elections witnessed the same celebration and enthusiasm as anywhere else in the country.
