From poacher to protector: A turtle guard in Ivory Coast

A poacher-turned-protector works diligently to conserve endangered sea turtles in Ivory Coast.

It is night on Roc Dougbalé beach in Ivory Coast and Hie Amiral Picard is on turtle watch. Like many locals, he caught turtles for meat and eggs. But now he is trying to preserve this endangered species.

He works with a marine conservation organization to tirelessly capture, raise and release baby turtles and educate the next generation about their importance to the environment.

Ivorian filmmaker Isabelle Christiane Kouraogo has directed five short films, which have been screened internationally, and is working on a documentary. Working across the industry, she is passionate about African cultural identity in universal storytelling.
