Zac Efron has insisted he is “happy and healthy” after being hospitalized over the weekend, but it has been a difficult time for the movie star.
This isn’t the first time Zac has been in the news for his physical health. There has been a lot of drama surrounding the star since he shot to fame in 2006 as heartthrob Troy Bolton in High School Musical.
The latest incident left the actor hospitalized on the party island of Ibiza after he took a deep dive into a villa pool on Saturday morning.
Zac had ‘a large amount of water in his lungs’ after hitting the bottom of the pool.

According to sources, the protagonist showed “signs of stress” and was “momentarily stunned” after the incident, prompting security officials to rush to his aid.
The Ibiza accident comes 11 years after a near-death experience in which the star slipped in a puddle of water while running around his house in his socks and hit his chin on a granite fountain, causing his chin bone to ‘hang over his face’.
Zac later told Entertainment Tonight that he nearly died after the freak injury, explaining, “It was funny. It sucks. I almost died, but we’re good.”
The movie star claimed that the accident was the cause of his changed appearance, and in recent years there has been much speculation that he has undergone cosmetic surgery.
Zac has always denied that he has had plastic surgery, instead claiming that the chewing muscles on the inside of his face and jaw ‘compensated’ for his 2013 injury, giving him a different shape.
The High School Musical star even claimed he didn’t know his transformation had gone viral on social media until his mother told him about the plastic surgery rumors.
Despite all attempts to make the rumors come true, Zac recently got a new lease on life after fans saw his latest hit, A Family Affair.

The romantic comedy, starring Nicole Kidman and Joey King, sees the 36-year-old actor sporting a noticeably wider jawline and firmer features, and viewers have been quick to notice how different he looks now.
“I’m trying to watch #AFamilyAffair with #ZacEfron but I’m way too distracted by what he did to his beautiful face. Why would he do that to himself?” wrote one X user while watching the new film.
In December 2013, Zac sparked surgery rumors again after appearing on The Today Show wearing dark sunglasses to promote his project The Iron Claw, in which he underwent a drastic transformation to play wrestler Kevin Von Erich.
While some fans claimed the sunglasses look was just evidence of cosmetic surgery, Zac insisted he had an eye infection.
It’s been almost 20 years since Zac first rose to fame in the hugely successful Disney classic High School Musical.
He was the most popular teen pin-up girl of the late 2000s, but in 2013, this heartthrob’s life began to fall apart.
Zac checked into rehab in 2013 and a year later, in a raw interview with Bear Grylls on his TV show Running Wild, he spoke candidly about how fame made him lose control.
The actor explained that his problems didn’t stem from a heavy workload, but from his fame. “You’re going to need a social lubricant soon,” Zac said.

Zac previously revealed that he fell into a deep depression and suffered from insomnia during training for his 2017 film Baywatch.
“The challenging part was never the work. It never was. It was the kind of in-between work.”
“The social aspects outside of that, I mean everywhere you go there’s press in some form or another. It can be anywhere and it can be confusing. You spend a lot of time in your house, and you go crazy.”
He added: ‘It got to the point where I cared less about work and more about the weekend. I couldn’t wait to get out there, let myself go and have fun.’
“But when Monday and Tuesday got hard to get through, I thought, ‘Oh, this is annoying.'”
‘I just really don’t want to ever have to take anything from the outside in to feel good about my outside, to feel comfortable in my current skin. And that takes a lot of work.

In December 2013, Zac caused another stir when he wore dark sunglasses while appearing on The Today Show
“It’s just meditation, where you just quiet your brain and calm it down.”
Zac switched from partying to meditation and exercise, but it was his dedication to his physical health that caused his mental health to deteriorate again in 2017.
He said he fell into a deep depression and suffered from insomnia while training for his 2017 film Baywatch.
He told Men’s Health: ‘That Baywatch look, I don’t know if that’s really achievable. There’s just not enough water in the skin. It’s fake; it looks CGI’d.’
Zac says he took Lasix, a diuretic, to get the muscular look he saw in the film, but it ultimately affected his mental health.
Zac has been open about his struggles over the past two decades and addressed the reports about his health head-on this weekend by sharing an Instagram photo of himself working out.
He added: ‘I started developing insomnia and I got into quite a depression, for a long time. Something about that experience burned me out.’
“I really struggled to refocus. Ultimately, they attributed it to taking way too many diuretics for way too long, and that had messed something up.”
