From cannibalistic cats to penguins having sex dead counterparts: Experts reveal animal crimes

The animal kingdom is a lawless land where creatures eat their young, have sex with their dead, and stab partners with a knife-like penis.

Cats sometimes eat their babies when they are sick or stillborn, along with desperation during an intense labor – and this cannabalistic trait is found in hedgehogs and reptiles.

Penguins have also been observed raping each other and having sex with the dead bodies of their conspecifics.

And while most know that animals are wild creatures, dolphins on the other hand are willing to commit any crime you can think of.

Humans may have their quirks and kinks, but sex in the animal kingdom can be really strange and excruciatingly painful.

But like the human world, animals have a dark side that emerges within their own groups.

Cannibalistic cats

Humans adore felines for their unconditional love, purrs and comfortable silence, but this can change once a mother gives birth.

While it’s rare to eat their kittens, it usually happens when one is sick.

The mother consumes the sick baby to prevent the disease from infecting her nest.

She will also eat a stillborn kitten to pass on extra nutrients to the surviving kittens, but even for herself after an intense labor.

Penguin Sex Crimes

The dark side of penguins was hidden for over a century, until Dr. George Murray Levick in 1911.

Levick’s paper on penguin behavior revealed evidence of gang rapes, chick sexual abuse, and even attempts by male penguins to mate with dead females.

The Edwardian explorer was so horrified by the findings in his article “Sexual Habits of the Adelie Penguin” that he initially wrote them down in Greek to make them inaccessible to the average reader.

The paper describes several cases of necrophilia, in which offenders mated with bodies that had died the previous year.

Levick observed male Adelie penguins gathering in “hooligan gangs of half a dozen or more and loitering at the edge of the knolls, irritating the inhabitants with their constant acts of depravity.”

More penguin depravity came to light in 1998, when people saw penguins turning to prostitution.

Dr. Fiona Hunter, a researcher in the University of Cambridge’s Department of Zoology, has spent five years observing the birds’ mating patterns.

Hunter and her team reported that some prostitute penguins fooled the males into thinking they would have sex by performing an elaborate courtship ritual, then run off with their stones.

Females, however, stayed with their male partners while also having sex with others.

“There was no suspicion among the men. Females often go out alone to collect rocks, so there’s no reason to suspect as far as the males are concerned,” Hunter said. BBC in 1998.

Brutal mating of bedbugs

Bed bugs are one of the few species that mate through traumatic insemination.

Dolphins are known for their playful, inquisitive nature and even for rescuing people who got into trouble at sea.

But the intelligent mammals are not so nice to house porpoises.

In 2014, marine experts saw a group of bottlenose dolphins kill one of the small mammals.

The researchers watched the much larger dolphins flip the animal onto its side and continued until the porpoise was a lifeless body floating off the coast of Cardigan Bay in West Wales.

Other research found that males assert their authority by forcibly mounting other males. These were short-term shows of strength, used to dominate men from other groups.

This can lead to bloody fights in which more than 20 dolphins bite and beat each other for the right to one female.
