Frightening moment zipline cable breaks during Brazilian fire department exercise and cadet crashes to the ground

Frightening video captured the moment a fire brigade cadet walked onto a 20-foot ball after his cable car’s cable broke, sending him plunging into the street during a voluntary training exercise in Brazil

The man, whose name has not been released, was seen on the video wearing a safety harness around his waist as he received instructions as he climbed out of a window of a building in Brasilia, the country’s capital.

The victim stood on the edge and supported himself by placing his hands on the bottom of the window.

He began descending the zipline and other cadets in the background cheered him on before the cable suddenly split.

The man fell face down to the street below and lay motionless before the video recording abruptly ended.

The incident took place on January 27, but the video was first released on Thursday.

The cadet received medical attention at the scene from his classmates and was rushed to a local hospital where he was treated for arm and rib pain and a cut to the head, according to Brazilian news channel G1.

The man never lost consciousness. He has been released from the hospital and is recovering.

The official Alpha-Resgate school has remained closed since the incident as part of the investigation.

‘The course coordinator and all instructors fully supported the student, we did all the initial care in the same way! We called the fire brigade and waited,” the school said in a statement.

‘The coordinator accompanied him to the entrance of the hospital and to the medical aid. The student is doing well, we are giving him all the support he needs.’

The school added that the ziplining exercise was not among the requirements.

“Students were told that anyone who did not wish to participate would not be harmed by the course,” the school said. “The student who had the accident did not want to get off, but was motivated by his colleagues to participate.”
