Friends of the warring brothers hint Harry’s ‘favoured usher’ Jack Mann was his best man

Prince Harry has opened up about how his appearance as Prince William’s best man at the 2011 royal wedding was ‘all for show’.

And now friends of the warring brothers are also suggesting that the same strategy may have been implemented during Harry’s wedding in 2018.

A source told The Mail on Sunday: “There have long been rumors in Harry’s circle that there was another best man, in secret.” William was the godfather to the public, but not the only godfather, nor the true godfather in Harry’s eyes.

Harry had several ushers on his big day, including fellow polo player Jack Mann and his closest friend Charlie van Straubenzee, brother of Prince William’s best friend Thomas.

Some friends believe it was an usher who acted as best man and expressed surprise that the detail had been omitted from Spare, given that Harry had confessed to being a false best man to William.

According to a friend, those close to him have long described Mr. Mann as Harry’s favorite usher, or “best man.”

Mann, who was recently engaged, invited the Duchess of Sussex to dinner at his west London home in the early days of her courtship with Harry.

However, it is believed that he has been estranged from Harry since the wedding. In Spare, the Prince explains that appearances can be deceiving at royal weddings, revealing that it was a “blatant lie” that he was William’s best man.

He said his brother’s close friends, James Meade and Thomas Van Straubenzee, gave the traditional speech at the reception.

He said, ‘Willy didn’t want me to give a best man speech.’

At Harry’s wedding, Meghan broke tradition by giving her own fairytale-themed speech, but Prince William was never reported to speak at length, and if he did, Harry doesn’t describe it in Spare.

Instead, she says her brother messed up the seating layout at the evening’s dinner by swapping the place cards at their table so that couples would sit apart, per English tradition.

Meghan preferred couples to sit together.

Harry also explains that William did not want to spend time with him the night before the ceremony and only attended a pre-wedding ushers dinner after the queen intervened. Last night, Mr. Mann said, ‘I’m not going to comment on anything to do with this.’

In other claims amid the 557-page memoir, the Prince recounted how William was “drunk on last night’s rum” just hours before he was to marry Kate, while waving to members of the public who had gathered at Buckingham Palace Mall.

Harry remembers telling his brother ‘you smell like alcohol’ before giving him mints as he rolled down the car window.

The comments come amid his deeply personal war of words with William, whom he accused of pushing him over a dog bowl during a fiery fight at Nottingham Cottage in 2019.

The fight allegedly broke out after William called Meghan ‘difficult’, ‘rude’ and ‘abrasive’.

In another alleged fight, Harry claimed that his brother “jumped” on him and “grabbed his shirt twice” in front of King Charles during an argument over Harry and Meghan’s explosive interview with Oprah Winfrey.

Harry said William used a secret phrase about his mother, Princess Diana, during the fight that followed Prince Philip’s funeral.

Harry has spoken openly about wanting to reconcile with his father and brother, despite their extraordinary claims that have plunged the royal family into its worst crisis since their mother’s death in 1997.
