Friends of England Lion Kieran Trippier slam his wife for timing of cryptic message during the squad’s stuttering Euros start – saying ‘What on earth was Charlotte playing at? Why would she do that?’

England’s performance in this tournament may have been lackluster so far, but there’s plenty of drama off the field… thanks to the Wags.

As the squad prepared for the match against Slovenia, which turned out to be an uneventful match on Tuesday evening, Charlotte Trippier, the wife of Newcastle star Kieran, posted a cryptic message on Instagram.

She wrote: ‘Sooner or later you’ll get over the s*** you swore you’d never get over and that’s the best feeling in the world.’

And now the Mail can reveal that friends of the 33-year-old full-back are furious at her decision to share the post – especially as it was on the day of a match in England where the team would be under such scrutiny.

Although she quickly deleted the post, fans were also led to look and discover that she no longer followed her husband on the social media platform.

Although it is not certain that the post was addressed to Trippier, it is believed he acknowledged this.

One said: ‘Where on earth was Charlotte playing? Why would she do that? She may not be in Germany, but she knows the consequences of her position very well.

‘They have always been a private couple so it seems ill-conceived to do this on such a big day when England are receiving so much criticism for the way they are playing.’

While people close to the player say his wife’s outburst has not affected his playing, a friend added: “It’s far from ideal, there was absolutely no need to put their marriage in the public eye like this domain.’

Ms Trippier later told her followers she was taking part in the school run with her eight-year-old son and five-year-old daughter.

The couple also have a third child, born in 2022. None of them flew to Germany to watch their father play, unlike many of the other players’ children.

In recent years, Mrs Trippier has cheered on her husband from the stands and the couple have also regularly holidayed with Harry Kane and his wife Kate.

It is believed the two couples became close when Trippier and Kane both played for Tottenham.

The Trippiers married in a lavish ceremony in Cyprus in 2016 – the same year their son was born.

Last year, Ms Tripper opened up about her ‘hidden’ struggles during the player’s time in Madrid in the Prime Video documentary series We Are Newcastle United. She honestly admitted that her husband’s 2019 move to La Liga side Atletico Madrid left her ‘lonely’ and ‘depressed’.

The Trippier saga came after it was revealed that Kyle Walker’s wife Annie Kilner was furious that the Manchester City star’s former lover Lauryn Goodman was going to Germany to watch England play Denmark with their son.

Ms. Kilner’s publicist has repeatedly expressed her disgust at Ms. Goodman’s decision to take four-year-old Kairo to see his father play.

Mother-of-four Kilner was also noticeably absent from Cologne on Tuesday evening to watch her husband play.
