According to showrunner Marta Kauffman (seen mid-cast), she chatted with the star two weeks before his death, and it seemed like he was “in a really good place.”

They talked about it in a preview for an upcoming intimate sit-down interview with Today presenter Hoda Kotb, which will be broadcast in full on Wednesday, November 1.
“When you spoke to Matthew two weeks ago, would you mind telling me what that conversation was like?” Hoda asked the duo.
“It was great, he was happy and cheerful,” Marta explained.
‘He didn’t seem to be bothered by anything. He was really in a good place, which is why this seems so unfair.”
News of Matthew’s death sent shockwaves around the world.
The actor – who famously played Chandler Bing on the sitcom for the ten seasons it aired – was discovered unconscious in his jacuzzi by his assistant, who frantically called 911 and raised his head in an attempt to give him some air .
But by the time Los Angeles firefighters arrived at the Friends star’s home in the Pacific Palisades, they said he was already dead.
She and fellow creator David Crane talked about it in an upcoming intimate sit-down interview with Today host Hoda Kotb, which will air in full on Wednesday, November 1.
“He was happy and cheerful,” Marta (seen with Matthew in 2004) said of their last conversation. ‘He didn’t seem to be bothered by anything. He was really in a good place.”

An initial autopsy result has been ‘deferred’, and toxicology reports will follow.
After his death, Marta and David issued a joint statement, along with Friends director Kevin Bright.
They remembered Matthew for his “blinding intelligence” and for always being “the funniest person in the room.”
“We are shocked and deeply, deeply saddened by the passing of our beloved friend Matthew,” they said Deadline. ‘It still seems impossible.
“All we can say is that we feel blessed to have had him in our lives.
‘He was a brilliant talent. It’s a cliché to say that an actor makes a role his own, but in Matthew’s case, there are no better words.
“From the day we first heard him play the role of Chandler Bing, there was no one else for us.
“We will always cherish the joy, light and dazzling intelligence he brought in every moment – not only to his work, but to life.
Matthew (seen on October 22, just days before his death) was found unresponsive in the hot tub of his Los Angeles home on Saturday, but no official cause of death has yet been released.
Before his death, Matthew was very open about his battle with drug addiction and alcohol abuse, but in recent interviews he said he was clean. He is seen in his jacuzzi on October 23
“He was always the funniest person in the room. In fact, he was the sweetest, with a giving and selfless heart.”
Playing on the famous episode titles in Friends, they added: “We send all our love to his family and friends. This is truly the one where our hearts are broken.”
Before his death, Matthew was very open about his battle with drug addiction and alcohol abuse, but in recent interviews he said he was clean.
He wrote in his memoir published last year that he spent a total of $9 million on his journey to sobriety, which revealed he had attended 6,000 AA meetings, been to rehab 15 times and been in detox 65 times .
He also admitted that he almost lost his life in 2018 when his colon burst due to excessive opioid use. The health problems left him in a coma for two weeks and in the hospital for five months.
Matthew said in the tome that he overcame his addiction in 2021 and has been living a healthier lifestyle in recent months.
First responders reportedly found antidepressants and anti-anxiety medications in the building, but there were no signs of illegal drugs.
