Fresh controversy in Turkish Super Lig as Galatasaray striker Mauro Icardi suffers a black eye after colliding with a POST as his club slam officials for not giving a penalty at Fenerbahce – but rivals’ captain Edin Dzeko labels their claims ’embarrassing’

Mauro Icardi posted a photo with a black eye on Sunday after the fiery derby between Galatasaray and Fenerbahçe, as the former officiated the match.

The Argentina forward was injured after crashing into the post during the goalless draw and his team criticized the referees for not giving a penalty or card.

“Those who only want justice for themselves have continued to manipulate Turkish football from every channel tonight!” That's what Icardi's team Galatasaray said.

'VAR room and 26 cameras cannot see and we are ashamed on their behalf. Those who brought Turkish football to this point will be ashamed.”

Fenerbahce dismissed the claims as 'shameful'.

Fenerbahce captain Edin Dzeko responded to Mauro Icardi's social media post. 'Icardi hit the goal post with his head and they put it on Instagram and shouted for the penalty… typical for them. Shameful,” the 37-year-old said.

Icardi later posted a photo on Instagram with his wife Wanda, also sporting a black eye that she had given herself with makeup.

In addition to the matching eye bruises, the couple wore identical pajamas, wishing their followers all the best for the holidays, with the caption: “Merry Christmas to everyone.” We wish you health, peace and lots of love from Istanbul.'

The latest controversy comes after referee Halil Umut Meler was punched at the end of a top Turkish match.

Former Ankaragucu President Faruk Koca ran onto the pitch and attacked Meler after his team got an equalizer in the 97th minute in a 1–1 Super Lig draw against Caykur Rizespor in Turkey.

Meler left the hospital on Wednesday with a swollen eye.

'No, I haven't forgiven [Koca]”I will not forgive it,” he told Turkish media.

Speaking about the incident, Meler told the Turkish outlet Hurry: 'The person who did this punched me, I collapsed and fell to the ground. But the actual kicking while I was on the ground will be something I will never forget for the rest of my life.

Koca was given a life ban by the Turkish Football Federation

The Turkish Football Federation's disciplinary board also ordered Ankaragucu to play five home games behind closed doors and fined the club 60,000 euros.

All competitions were suspended in the wake of the TFF and the top level resumed on Tuesday. But one of the three scheduled matches was abandoned when Istanbulspor's president withdrew his team from the field in protest at a refereeing decision in their match against Trabzonspor.
