The expat was surprised when she noticed that many of her Australian friends leave soap scum on dishes when they are left to dry.

“This is not the first time I’ve seen this in Australia and I think it’s completely bizarre,” he said in the clip.

“People in Australia who leave this stuff here like it’s clean and normal,” he said, pointing to a stack of dishes with soap scum left to dry.

Speaking to an off-camera Australian man who is supposed to be the culprit for the ‘dirty’ dishes, she asked him where he learned to wash.

‘Is it like in school or where do you learn this? You see it’s not clean, she told him.

‘Are you serious? You’re going to rinse this, right?

In the exchange, the man said he often rinses dishes before using them, saying it was “normal” to leave some soap “everywhere” but the French traveler didn’t want it.

You’re not going to let this dry out like this. No, you are (provoking) me right now,ā€ she said before asking if she could rinse the residue off a saucepan.

The man said he could dry them with a kitchen towel as rinsing them would ‘waste water’.

The clip has been viewed more than 57,500 times and many Australians in the comments were furious as they agreed that leaving foam on dishes is “definitely not normal”.

‘Not. Born and raised in Australia. I don’t want soap on my dishes. I rinse myself,’ wrote one viewer.

Is it ‘normal’ to leave some soap scum on dishes after washing them?

Suds are chemicals. I need to rinse myself,’ a second agreed while a third said: ‘I’m Australian and I can’t stand this. If you’re not rinsing them, all the dirt and germs just spread out and remain on the glass.’

‘My ex-grandmother-in-law did this. I eat straight from the foam and on a clothesline. He was horrified,ā€ a fourth responded.

But not everyone resented the dishwashing habit, and dozens pointed out that rinsing would waste water.

“No, when we were growing up we had drying racks and individual sinks… I remember drying them with a soapy dish towel,” said one woman.

“If I rinse it off, they’ll cut off my ear for wasting water,” added a second.

‘Babies, we grew up in a drought! We had limited showers, this is clean! explained a third.
