Coco Gauff has withdrawn from The French Open after her straight-set loss to world No. 1 Iga Swiatek in the quarterfinals, as there are no Americans left in the tournament.
The 19-year-old is leaving Paris after crashing 6-4, 6-2 and a year after losing to Swiatek in the final in straight sets last year.
What’s more, Gauff remains winless against her Polish rival – a three-time major singles champion – and has not won a set in their previous six confrontations.
The stat remained the same on Wednesday, though Gauff pushed her opponent for at least an hour and 30 minutes and will feel she might have done better.
The world No. 3 couldn’t capitalize on the few chances she had to get the upper hand, especially in the second set, and Swiatek made her pay.

The top seed has only lost 15 games in five games and she said, “I didn’t spend much time on court so I’m glad it was a tighter game today.”
Gauff came up with a different tactic from last year’s final, testing Swiatek with high, slower balls to her backhand and trying not to let the top seed get into a rhythm.
It worked well to a point, with Gauff quickly getting back an early break, but Swiatek upped her level to take the set with a brilliant returning play.
Gauff’s big chance came in the third game of the second set when she created three break points – the third after she drilled a scoreless backhand to Swiatek near the net, sending the Pole tumbling to clay as she tried to avoid it.
Gauff was quick to apologise, but it was Swiatek who had the last laugh as the American shot long at each of her chances.
And that would prove to be the final opening, with the two-time champion winning four games in a row to re-book her spot in the final four.

Swiatek will face Beatriz Haddad Maia of Brazil in the semifinals after beating Ons Jabeur
There, Swiatek will face Beatriz Haddad Maia, who came from a set down to beat Ons Jabeur to become the first Brazilian woman to reach the semifinals of the French Open in the open era.
After battling for nearly four hours to beat Sara Sorribes Tormo in the fourth round, the 14th seed again had work to do after losing the opening set to seventh seed Jabeur.
A very tight second set ended in a tiebreak, which Haddad Maia took, and the Brazilian ran off with the decider to win 3-6 7-6 (5) 6-1.
Haddad Maia, 27, looked utterly stunned at the moment of victory, having never progressed past the fourth round at a stroke.
However, her results outside the majors are very impressive and she hopes to follow in the footsteps of Brazilian grand slam champions Gustavo Kuerten and Maria Bueno.
