Don Draper’s latest pitch: Free agent Trea Turner enlists John Hamm to tell his highlight for MLB teams in hopes the actor can help him land a huge new deal
Free agent Trea Turner has enlisted one of the biggest names in Hollywood and advertising to pitch his services to MLB teams.
Actor John Hamm, whose voice is used to sell everything from Apple TV to Mercedes, told a montage of Turner highlights being distributed to MLB clubs by CAA, the agency that represents both men.
“He can run. He can throw. He plays elite shortstop. He hits. He’s looking for power,” said Hamm, a lifelong Cardinals fan, of the Dodgers free agent. “He can start and be a table-setter, or he can come in second or third and be a run producer.”
In addition to lending his voice to many popular television ads, Hamm also played an advertising executive, Don Draper, on the hit AMC series, Mad Men.

Turner will begin his second consecutive All-Star appearance in his first full year with the Los Angeles Dodgers, who took over from the Washington Nationals in 2021.
Such a video is not uncommon for MLB free agents, who typically use a combination of advanced analytics and expert opinions to convince teams to offer top contracts.
“As of 2019, he is the second best player in baseball according to fangraphs with a 20.1 fWAR,” says Hamm.
“Trea is the only active shortstop with a lifetime career of .300 plus batting average. The last short stop to finish his career at a .300 average was Derek Jeter,” Hamm added later.
Hamm compares Turner’s playing style to NBA star Stephen Curry and NFL legend Jerry Rice.
MLB insider John Heyman reported in the New York Post that Turner could land a nine-year, $275 million contract. However, there are several other free-agent shortstops on the market, including Xander Bogaerts, Carlos Correa and Dansby Swanson.
“You have the opportunity to change the direction of your franchise with a centerpiece, a player that gives you the chance to win every day with him at the top of your lineup,” said Hamm. “Focus now, because the opportunity will pass you by.”
