Freddie Flintoff’s Top Gear horror crash car did not have airbags
Andrew ‘Freddie’ Flintoff’s horror crash sports car was not equipped with airbags.
The 45-year-old TV presenter was driving a 130mph open-top Morgan Super 3 three-wheeler for Top Gear in December last year when the vehicle rolled over at an airfield.
The classic-looking £43,000 British hand-built vehicle, which is described as a “motorized trike”, does not have airbags, according to the manufacturer’s Morgan website.
Former cricketer Andrew was left with broken ribs and serious facial injuries after the accident.
An internal BBC health and safety investigation is reportedly nearing completion and station bosses may face legal action from those involved.

“This revelation about not having an airbag is sure to spark questions from fans.”
The BBC declined to comment when contacted by MailOnline.
Jock Freddie has taken time off from all work to recuperate, and Top Gear is reportedly not coming back.
Morgan Motor Company was known for building three-wheeled cars before the war before putting them back into production in the 2000s.
Freddie was airlifted to hospital after the crash while filming an episode of Top Gear at Dunsfold Park airfield in Surrey.
said a source Sun at the time: ‘Freddie is in the hospital after an accident in Top Gear.
‘He was driving on the track as usual. He wasn’t going very fast, it was just an accident that could happen to anyone.

“All the usual health and safety measures were also taken for filming.
Freddie was taken to the hospital by air ambulance soon after.
‘His injuries are not life-threatening and he is receiving treatment.
“Filming has been postponed for now and the only thing everyone cares about is Freddie getting well.”
A BBC spokesperson confirmed that Freddie was involved in the accident and that he was taken to hospital for further treatment.
Freddie became a Top Gear presenter in 2019, and the former England captain was involved in an accident shortly after joining the BBC show.
The incident occurred during a drag race involving presenters Paddy McGuinness and Chris Harris.
He later said: “I do everything I can to make sure I do well in Top Gear drag racing, but this time I went a little too far.” It will look more ridiculous than dangerous when you see it on TV.
Investigation: An internal BBC health and safety investigation is nearing completion and station bosses may face legal action from those involved.
Meanwhile, a BBC spokesperson said at the time: “The health and safety of our presenters and crew at Top Gear is paramount.
‘As viewers of the recent series will have seen, Freddie is often eager to ‘get off the beaten track’.
“Tuesday’s filming at Elvington Airfield was no exception, but he suffered no injuries as a result of his spontaneous deflection, as fans will see for themselves when we show the full sequence in the next series.”
Meanwhile, former Top Gear presenter Richard Hammond previously said he was “too scared” to be checked for dementia after his horror accident.
The 53-year-old TV presenter, who fronted the BBC Two show alongside Jeremy Clarkson and James May from 2002 to 2015, suffered a brain injury following a catastrophic car accident while filming the show in 2006.
Suffering life-changing side effects, including post-traumatic amnesia, Richard now fears that his worsening memory may be dementia caused by the high-speed crash.
On hold: Officials immediately suspended filming after the crash and began investigating the incident (L-R: Freddie Flintoff, Chris Harris, Paddy McGuinness)
speaking in the Diary of a CEO podcast, he said: ‘I worry about my memory because it’s not brilliant. I can still read a script and turn it in, but my long-term memory isn’t brilliant.
‘I have to write things down and work hard to remember them sometimes. It could be age, it could be the start of something else. I worry about it. Yeah.’
The TV star admitted to suffering from depression after the accident, and his 57-year-old wife Mindy was warned there could be subsequent brain injury.
He added: ‘Doctors told Mindy that damage to the frontal lobe of the brain would possibly lead to a higher propensity for obsessive compulsion, depression and paranoia.
‘She said, ‘You didn’t know him before the accident, did you?’ which is pretty funny.
Richard’s scary accident occurred while filming an episode of Top Gear at RAF Elvington airfield near York in September 2006.
Richard was driving at 319mph in a Vampire dragster, a jet car that has the potential to reach speeds of 370mph, when the right front tire unexpectedly failed, causing the engine to spin out of control and roll over.
The media personality had to be cut up with hydraulic shears before being rushed to hospital.
