Fred Sirieix teases surprising career change

Fred Sirieix teased a surprising career switch on Thursday.

The First Dates star, 51, has said he plans to make a history show for TV, which he is very excited about.

It comes after Fred’s other show Gordon, Gino and Fred: Road Trip was thrown into chaos when Gino D’Acampo quit after three series causing it to be dropped.

The 46-year-old chef said he left because of a row over “complicated” contracts.

Fred has now told The sun about his new idea for a show: ‘I’m reading an incredible book called Black Spartacus, about a man named Toussaint Louverture who led the revolution in Haiti and I want to do a passion project about him.

“I think there’s a series there about incredible historical figures like himself. I think there is a very interesting kind of historical program to show the people, the landscape and the country of Haiti, and of course the food.’

The star added, “It would be very interesting. So it’s very different from the kind of program I normally do, it’s more passion than anything else, but it’s something I want to do.’

In the ITV programme, the Italian TV favorite traveled the world with fellow foodies Gordon and Fred as they discovered the local cuisine.

Gino said his friendships with his former colleagues had nothing to do with his departure, as their “strong” bond meant more to him than squabbles over contracts.

He recently told his followers on Instagram: “Last week I decided not to film Gordon, Gino and Fred Road trips anymore. The reason is very simple: nothing to do with Gordon or Fred, the friendship is very strong.’

He continued, “It’s just because we can’t get the dates together and sometimes when we get the dates together they get changed sometimes and that causes a lot of problems for me because I have other things to do.”

“Personal problems too, because if I have to change things with my family, it’s very complicated and also because [of] contracts.’

Gino is married to Jessica Stellina Morrison with whom he has sons Luciano, 21, and Rocco, 18, and nine-year-old daughter Mia.

Gino continues, “Because contracts are starting to get very complicated and stressful, I personally value the friendship with Gordon and Fred so much that I’d rather have the friendship than argue with the contract.”

“So I’ve decided not to do it anymore, because I want to be friends with the boys for many, many years to come.”

An ITV spokesperson said: ‘A brand new series from Gordon, Gino & Fred’s Road Trip in Spain will air later this year on ITV1 and ITVX’ – which has already been filmed.

The popular show first aired in 2018 as the trio toured France and Italy before heading to America in 2020, followed by a trip to Greece two years later.

During promotional interviews for his new Channel 4 series, Fred’s Last Resort, Sirieix told MailOnline earlier this year that the trio were busy organizing the show’s next series.

However, he hinted that there were problems behind the scenes, noting that there was a problem pinning everyone down.

He said, “Yeah, we’re currently talking about dates to go on the next road trip together.” It’s a little hard to juggle all our schedules, but we’ll get there.”

He went on to say that a hectic schedule didn’t bother him, explaining: “I’m busy… that’s the nice thing about my career: no two days are the same and that’s why I like it – it’s very diverse.”

“I meet a lot of people in different settings, whether it’s restaurants or TV, and I find it very exciting.

‘I don’t mind being busy, I actually enjoy being busy, because the busier you are, the busier you become and when I’m busier, I’m happy. If I’m not busy, I’m not happy.’

He then echoed the sentiments while speaking to ITV’s Lorraine Kelly, saying: ‘We’re talking dates for the next one. It’s hard to juggle all our diaries.

“But we’ll get there—we’ll get there.”
