Manchester United have confirmed the departure of Brazilian midfielder Fred after an agreement with Turkish side Fenerbahce.

Fred completes a £13 million move to a new environment after five years at Old Trafford, having first joined from Ukrainian side Shakhtar Donetsk in 2018.

United announced that the 30-year-old has successfully completed his medical in Turkey and has agreed personal terms at his new club, with the move subject to international approval.

The midfielder had previously said an emotional goodbye to the Red Devils supporters in a video full of highlights and videos of heartwarming interactions with fans.

Erik ten Hag is now expected to use the proceeds from the sale of the player to sign a new midfielder in the remaining weeks of the summer transfer window.

United continue to pursue the Fiorentina midfielder and have also probed Everton’s Andre Onana if they cannot agree a transfer with the Italian side.

Fred leaves the North West of England after enduring a mixed time in Manchester that clashed with some individual moments of brilliance and poor performances.

He was regularly used by former manager Ole Gunnar Solskjaer in a midfield duo with Scotland international Scott McTominay before Ten Hag took charge.

Due to the arrival of the Dutch manager, Fred’s playing time was limited as new signings Casemiro and Christian Eriksen were often preferred in midfield alongside Bruno Fernandes.

Fred made 213 appearances for United during his time at the club, scoring 14 goals and recording 19 assists for the 13-time Premier League champions.

The Brazilian posted an accompanying message alongside his exit video, saying: ‘Thank you for everything, Manchester United Football Club. Today ends one of the most beautiful stages of my career.

“I was living the dream of wearing the shirt of one of the biggest clubs in the world. With ups and downs I leave with the conviction that I have always given the best of myself during all training sessions and competitions.

“It was a true dream for me and my family for five years. I will be eternally grateful for the opportunity. Forever a red one!’
