Freaky Friday 2 confirmed at Disney with Lindsay Lohan and Jamie Lee Curtis both returning

Almost exactly 20 years after they first switched bodies, Jamie Lee Curtis and Lindsay Lohan return for Disney’s Freaky Friday 2.

Both Curtis, 64, who recently congratulated Lohan, 36, on her first child, spoke about the sequel in a New York Times profile on the 20th anniversary of their 2003 film.

Now The Hollywood Reporter has confirmed that there will be a sequel, with Elyse Hollander writing the screenplay.

Freaky Friday originated as a 1972 novel written by Mary Rodgers in which she follows a mother and daughter who have somehow switched bodies for a day.

The story was first adapted into the 1976 film of the same name starring Barbara Harris and Jodie Foster as mother and daughter.

There has been talk of a sequel for years, with Curtis specifically addressing the prospect of a sequel in various interviews.

Curtis revealed in the New York Times piece that while promoting Halloween Ends last year, she was inundated with questions about a sequel.

“Something really struck a chord. When I got back, I called my friends at Disney and said, “It feels like a movie needs to be made,” said Curtis.

Lohan added in the Times piece, “Jamie and I are both open to that, so we’ll leave it in the hands that are there. We would just make something that people would absolutely love.”
