A little girl has suffered injuries to the back of her head after being mauled by a dingo on Fraser Island, now known as K’gari.

A rescue helicopter was deployed to the island just after 4pm on Tuesday, located off the southeast coast of Queensland’s Wide Bay-Burnett area.

The little girl is said to be about six years old and suffered only superficial injuries from the dingo bite.

An ambulance has also been sent to the scene.

It comes just months after a five-year-old boy was hospitalized after being ‘pounced’ by a dingo at a campsite on Fraser Island.

The attack occurred when the young child was visiting the island’s Ocean Lake campground, also known as K’gari, on Dec. 18.

His father managed to pull the dingo off his son before the child and his mother were flown from the island to Hervey Bay Airport in a LifeFlight helicopter.

The pair were then taken to hospital.

The attack came just weeks after the Queensland government warned of increasing dingo activity and completed a new seven-kilometer fence around the nearby community of Orchid Beach.

The area is known as a hot spot for dingo attacks with at least a dozen incidents recorded over the past 20 years.
