Pop supergroup Frankie Goes To Hollywood ‘could make a comeback’ after 20 years of Eurovision performance
Frankie Goes To Hollywood could make a comeback after 20 years to perform in the Eurovision Song Contest in May, it has been reported.
The 1980s supergroup formed in 1980 and scored hits like Relax, The Power Of Love and Two Tribes before breaking up in 1987.
The band last performed together in Amsterdam in 2005, almost two decades ago.
But now the hit group – consisting of Holly Johnson (vocals), Paul Rutherford (backing vocals), Peter Gill (drums), Brian Nash (guitar) and Mark O’Toole (bass guitar) – could make a comeback.
They have been asked to perform at the Eurovision Song Contest in Liverpool as it is their home city. The sun only reported.
Comeback: Pop supergroup Frankie Goes To Hollywood could reportedly make a return at this year’s Eurovision Song Contest in Liverpool
Split: The band hasn’t performed together in 20 years (singer Holly Johnson is pictured performing in November 2022)
An insider told the paper: ‘The organizers of the Eurovision Song Contest have put them at the top of their wish list and have asked them if they would consider performing.
“The group hasn’t played with lead singer Holly in over 20 years, so it would be huge to get them back.”
However, they added: ‘Eurovision hopes the group says yes, but it may not be that simple.’
The return to screens on the BBC would be particularly noteworthy as the band’s 1983 debut single Relax was banned by the broadcaster at the time.
Mae Muller is this year’s British entry for the Eurovision Song Contest with her track I Wrote A Song.
But Mae’s final performance of her self-penned song was criticized when she seemed to forget the words.
After a clip of the 25-year-old on stage was shared on TikTok this week, fans feared for her hopes in the competition.
Despite exuding a lot of confidence on stage, she seemingly chose to hum to the music while the excited audience did all the singing.

While sharing the video, one fan wrote, “She wrote a song… but she can’t sing it.”
In just one month’s time, the Beeb will be broadcasting the extravaganza live from M&S Bank Arena Liverpool.
The grand final of the Eurovision Song Contest will take place on May 13 and will be presented by presenters such as Alesha Dixon, Graham Norton, Hannah Waddingham and Julia Sanina.
