‘They’re just absolute ‘b*****ks’: Frank Warren hits back at Eddie Hearn after he told Sportsmail Tyson Fury could fight Anthony Joshua this summer, and Gypsy King’s promoter claims the two parties just they had shared a ’30 second conversation’
- Anthony Joshua will fight Jermaine Franklin at the O2 this Saturday
- Eddie Hearn told Sportsmail he could fight Tyson Fury in his next fight
- Fury’s promoter Frank Warren has called these claims “absolute bullshit”.
Frank Warren has criticized Eddie Hearn for telling Sportsmail that Anthony Joshua could fight Tyson Fury this year.
Warren said his comments were ‘b*****s’ and that the two parties had only spoken for ’30 seconds’.
It comes after Hearn said the two Britons could meet in the coming months if Joshua wins his fight against Jermaine Franklin this weekend.
“I really think as long as AJ beats Franklin, we’ll see him against Fury in the summer,” he told Sportsmail earlier this week.
He also touched on the financial issues that forced Fury’s planned fight with Oleksandr Usyk and assured that that would not be a problem as “everyone accepts that AJ is a bigger draw for UK fans than Oleksandr”.
Frank Warren hit back at Eddie Hearn for claiming Anthony Joshua could fight Tyson Fury this summer
Warren called the claims “absolute idiots” and said the two parties had only had a 30-second conversation.
Hearn continued: “I’ve had discussions this week with George Warren (son and consigliere of Fury promoter Frank Warren) and essentially the original contract is in place.
And we all know the timing is perfect now as it happens due to circumstances with Usyk. And that this is the last chance for this great fight to happen.
“I hope to exchange pilot contracts with Queensberry soon. Maybe as soon as next week. AJ knows that there is a great opportunity. At last. So much at stake now. But she also has her total focus on Franklin.’
Warren remembers the exchange very differently, as he told talk SPORT: “It was a 30 second conversation.
‘That thing that was in the Post yesterday, George called Hearn and said, “What’s this all about?” He said he didn’t know. I’m just telling you what he said.
“George said it was a conversation under 30 seconds and we didn’t even discuss it with Tyson.
‘Really upset about that because that 100 percent didn’t happen. “Contracts will be signed next week” is just utter nonsense.
Joshua’s promoter, Eddie Hearn, said the contracts are already finalized from last year’s talks, and said they could have further talks with Fury’s team next week, all of which Warren disputed.
Joshua will fight for the first time since losing to Oleksandr Usyk in August when he faces Jermaine Franklin on Saturday.
He went on to make a broader point about social media affecting boxing, adding: “This is what makes all of that happen, social media is actually killing some of the fights because of the hype level.”
“I don’t want to be conducting negotiations through social networks. That became part of the downfall of the Usyk fight.
Joshua will take on Franklin this Saturday at the O2, in what will be his first fight since losing to Usyk in August.
The 33-year-old may need a first win since 2020 in the fight if he is to have any chance of resurrecting his career.
