Frank Lampard has been confirmed as the new manager of Championship side Coventry City.
The 46-year-old has signed a two-and-a-half-year contract with the Sky Blues, who are currently 17th in England’s second tier.
Lampard, who has previously coached Chelsea, Everton and Derby County, has not been seen in the dugout for 18 months following his second spell at Stamford Bridge, when he signed Graham Potter on an interim basis at the end of the 2022/2023 season replaced.
On Lampard’s appointment, Coventry owner Doug King said: ‘I am delighted that Frank Lampard has agreed to join our club as Head Coach. Frank has cut his teeth in the championship and knows what it takes to be successful in this competition.
“His subsequent experiences at Chelsea and Everton will ensure that he gives our talented squad a clear understanding of exactly what it takes to succeed at the highest level we as a Club aspire to.”
Lampard replaces Mark Robins following his sacking earlier this month, and will be supported by coaches Joe Edwards and Chris Jones, whom he has previously worked with.

He will speak to the media for the first time since taking charge of Coventry on Thursday afternoon.
Lampard has had a mixed record as a manager since taking his first job at Derby in 2018. In his only season at the club, Lampard led Derby to the Championship play-off final, but they were defeated by Aston Villa at Wembley as the Rams fell short. in their search for promotion.
He then took charge of Chelsea after spending more than a decade as a player at the club, securing Champions League qualification in his first season.
However, things went downhill quickly in the following campaign and he was sacked in January 2021 after a poor run of results.
His replacement, Thomas Tuchel, led Chelsea to Champions League glory just over four months later.
Lampard was given another Premier League job 12 months after leaving Chelsea, when Everton turned to him to keep them in the top flight.
The Toffees secured their Premier League status by winning their penultimate game of the season against Crystal Palace, but struggled in the early part of the following season and Lampard was sacked in January 2023.
He returned to Chelsea for the latter part of the 2022/23 season after a disastrous start to the Todd Boehly era, but was unable to turn around the club’s fortunes as he won just one of his eleven games in charge.

He will now look to turn around Coventry’s fortunes, with the club currently 17th in the table

Lampard has had to wait patiently for his next opportunity but has now been given the chance to kick-start Coventry’s season.
Coventry reached the play-off final in 2023 under Robins and pushed Manchester United all the way through in their dramatic FA Cup semi-final last season.
But a slow start to the season cost Robins his job, and Coventry now languish in the bottom half, 10 points outside the play-offs.
Lampard will take charge of his first match on Saturday afternoon when Coventry host Cardiff City.
