Frank Lampard ‘could take over at Major League Soccer team Charlotte FC’ with the Chelsea legend and ex-Everton boss in the running with Dean Smith for the coaching role

Charlotte FC are reportedly in talks with Frank Lampard over their vacant coaching role.

According to reports on Tuesday evening, Lampard, the former Chelsea and Everton manager who played in Major League Soccer with New York City FC, is in the running for the job alongside former Aston Villa coach Dean Smith.

The Athletics says Lampard and Dean Smith, the former Aston Villa and Norwich coach, are finalists for the role and Charlotte hopes to have someone appointed by the end of December.

Charlotte reached the MLS play-offs for the first time in history this season before losing to New York Red Bulls and parting ways with coach Christian Lattanzio.

Lampard has been out of work as a coach since his second spell at Chelsea, where he returned on an interim basis after the Premier League club sacked Graham Potter.
