France became the first country in the world to add abortion rights to its constitution after a joint session of the French parliament passed an amendment. Of the 925 voting MPs and senators, 780 supported the amendment, which gives women the ‘guaranteed freedom’ to choose abortion. YaΓ«l Braun-Pivet, the president of the national assembly of Macron’s Renaissance party, said: β€œTo the women of France we say that we will never take a step back. To the women of the world we say that we will stand with them, and that we will always move forward at their side.”
